I have always been a mono kind of guy but witha couple of new reels ready to spool I'm going to put some Tuff Line on them.

What is the best knot for tying Tuff Line to terminal tackle? I.E. swivels, spreaders etc. graemlins/stupid.gif

Palomar when you can. Improved clinch for the rest.

I second the Palomar knot

Double the line for about one foot (give yourself enough to work with). Put the doubled line through the eye of the swivel twice forming a loop. Wrap the doubled end of the line around the doubled line above the swivel 6-7 times, then go through both the loop and the opening left by the wrapping. Tighten by pulling on the line and standing end, the loop that you threaded through and the swivel. You must pull all the ends evenly.

When the knot comes tight, slide the wraps down against the swivel and tug on the loop end again, then trim the loop and the end of the line (at this point I burn the ends to prevent fraying and to form a melted bead that would be difficult to pull through the knot).

This knot leaves a "dead" length of line in the knot to act as a bumper and to prevent the line from sliding against itself.

I have used this knot for years and have had no problems. Using 50lb Tuf and 40lb UG it is always the UG that breaks when I hang it up.

With due respect to Crabbait, use the palamar, its simple, easy to tie and bullet proof. Basically a half hitch with a loop. I have been using it with tuff since it first came out about 10+ years ago and never a knot failure, never a problem..... K.I.S.S................

Palomar all the way. I bought one of those Tie Master (http://www.tie-master.com/) gadgets that someone had recommended. Works great, but by the time I dig it out of my tackle box or vest, I could have been retied using the palomar knot and been fishing already.

I have to agree with Crabbait I use that same knot with tuff line when bobber fishing and have not lost a bobber in 4 years.

The knot Crabbait describes is the one recommended by the manufacturer on the inside of the box.

hey crabbait,
that knot sounds like an improved palomar to me. palomar on steroids, maybe? whatever you use, burn the end. i fished my power pro for a day and when i saw the fraying at the end i knew it was just a matter of time before it compromised the knot.

Uni knot

I've used the Palomar with good success but did have a knot come undone on me this last summer. I've switched to the knot that Crabbait suggests and have a little more confidence in it. Keta suggests the uni knot which I think would be fine if you could somehow double the line with it. The manufacturer suggests always doubling the line when tying knots. Good Luck

Uni-Knot Version Of The Hangman's Knot

A better join can be made using one of the Hangman's Knots, known to the International Game Fish Association fisherman as the Uni-Knot.

Uni-Knot Version Of The Hangmans KnotThis is a knot used for attaching the line to the spool of the reel.

1. Overlap the two lines for about 15cm.
2. Using one end, form a circle that overlies both lines.
3. Pass the end six times around the two lines.
4. Pull the end tight to draw the knot up into shape.
5. Repeat the process using the end of the other line.
6. Pull both lines to slide the two knots together.
