Thank you for posting that Pete.
Everyone please take just a second and think about the schedule that Pete posted. Think about the travel time for these meetings..... time away from family, fishing, hunting, work and friends. Think about the tough decisions they have to make.
These folks, whether we always agree with them or not, deserve a large round of applause from everyone on this board for being willing to give of themselves as they do as volunteers. graemlins/applause.gif This goes for past members as well.
We owe them a big Ifish thank you! for the service they provide.
Like thier decisions or not, they are stepping up and making it happen and I for one appreciate that.

Gee Straydog, what office are you running for?
Must be something to do with ODFW?
Please remember that the majority of the people on the Commission are there to
“Protect Specific Interests” mainly, theirs…
I would like to think of the commission as some philanthropic organization that had both the sportsman and Oregon’s ecosystem in mind when they decide on many of the issues they face today. But having attended many meetings as well as other information gathering techniques I believe they do what they feel is best for the constituency they represent as well as what can pass as favorable in the current prevailing political winds. I do appreciate the hard work that they do, but I have become impatient at the current pace with regards to their lack of forward looking planning. Much like the tribes, I believe the time to do the work is now…
Pete
Thank you for posting this release. I like the Expo meeting. That should be a hoot. Cool about the Salem meetings, now it will only be a 25 min drive to attend.

Of course they are protecting an interest....
Kind of like a representaive government you know. You bring an agenda to your volunteer efforts. That should not detract from the fact that you are willing to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
I find it interesing you mix promoting the desires of the constiuency and forward thinking together.
Do you not pay attention to the majority of the constiuency in your interaction with them? Do you really see them as forward thinking?
Out of the 2,000 plus people registered to this board, how many are working to replace those interests and do what these guys do?
I am not running for any office, I am a volunteer who's experience makes me appreciate what these guys do.
Yours should too!

Representaive??? Is that a combination “represent” and “naïve”
That would have to be one of the best Freudian slips I have ever seen you make.
As to the rest of your reply I can not make sense out of it, did you call me stupid or just some constituency?

I was in Eugene at that meeting and go to just about all the others...and that's not even the flurry of in between confabs they have to mesh with all the other forest, ag, user and enviro interests...actually, they are forward thinking and doing their best to cope with some huge problems...if I saw you there more often, I'd be a lot more comfortable about what you say...

Bill
At the next meeting look behind you, I always sit behind you and Mrs. Pressentin so I can listen to the Commission as well as eves drop on you. I enjoy listening to what you think is important compared to what I think is important, they very seldom are the same…
I have noticed that in the last 10 months you have been attending and reporting on more Commission meetings. As a sportsman, that is something I really do appreciate.

***,
I'm not calling anyone stupid however I might be calling you blind!
What I was trying to point out is that the vast majority of the commission's constituency is far from 'forward looking.' If you don't see that you are not paying attention.
You said they end up representing their constituency and then lament that they are not forward looking, in your opinion........ If not to represent thier constituency, what is thier respsonibility?
Your comments illustrate very clearly the people they have to try to please and the challenges some of you present.
Also, if the job is such an opportunity to push and protect ones personal interests as you say, I would think that many of the thousands on this board would be clamouring for the chance to serve.
Boater,
So, do you have anything to say or just stopped by to stir the pot.....?
Hogmaster,
Gimme a beer!!!

I've covered the commission for 25 years (not 11 months) and have sat with my back to the wall for the past 15, so I don't know quite how you would be behind Anne and I. Just about everything they do is important to someone. Usually the choice of what to cover and how to spend valuable newsprint isn't very hard. There also are often even better stories between the lines and you can't get that off the net, no matter how many links you read...
