Well, I have just started to get back into fishing last year. I have been using slinkies on a sliding swivel. I'm not convinced this is the way to go. I think there are 4 options: Slinky fixed swivel, slinky sliding swivel, pencil lead sliding swivel and pencil lead fixed swivel. Which do you guys and gals prefer. I would be drift fishing from the bank.

Depends on the water

long slow drift slider slinky

Fast moving fixed slinky if sticky lead if sandy

white water fixed slinky so can feel bite immediately

I use no swivels, just tubing, lead, corkie and hook. You break off enough steelie fishing, so why throw away extra gear?

outdoor.spec.ops,

How do you put on the tubing to the line w/o a swivel?

I use a fixed slinky almost all the time on my rods. The exception is when fishing lower streaches of the coastal rivers were it is mostly a pea gravel/sand bottom I run fixed pencil lead.

It's pretty much a sliding lead and tubing show for me. Snap swivel above a barrel swivel. No bead.

I guess I'm just used to that tap, tap, tap of lead.

I do use slinkies and bank sinkers when they apply as well.

But 95 % of the weights are sliding set ups.

Just my experiences.....

unless I'm fishing a little pocket-water on small rivers, I always use slinkies on a sliding snap-swivel. It allows direct contact to the hook (fish). You can feel the fish better as neither you or the fish has to move the lead in order to feel the fish.
Just slide a snap-swivel up the line before you tie on the barrel swivel. Tie your leader to the barrel swivel and clip the slinkie in the snap swivel.

I like to use plain hollow core. When you tie your barrel swivel, leave an inch or so of line from the knot. Then side the hollow over the line and crimp it with needle nose pliers. This allows for quick adjustments if you put to much weight on. Just clip a little off the end until you have the right drift.

When I drift fish fish I almost always use lead rigged nonsliding. Sliding weights suck when you are using bait, especially when you have to use real light lead.

I really dont care too much for slinkies. When you hang a slinkie you almost always loose all you rigging. With lead I just loose the lead most of the time.

My 2 cents,
I can't stand slinky's for some reason I like the option of cutting off what ever size lead I need to match the flow and bottom. I use a slider with a bead and it works. I just like the touch of the lead and I can loose lead and not the $ for slinky's, ready to fish no need to make anything....
Fire.....
