I have had my sportjet since 99...I have about 150 hours on it with no issues at all.

Every June/July I take it to NR for an annual service.

Hope this helps.

I have been contacted about the extended warranty on my sportjet. They thought they wanted $600 bucks a year for it. I am unemployed, so it was too steep for me. I only have about 90 hours on mine. No problems at all. I am a firm believer in regular service though.

I think that all extended warrantees are scams. They typically are about 90% profit for the dealer, and then you get a little insurance policy for the distant future, which, from the reports I've heard, is often hard to collect on even if you do need it.

I have always figured that anything I use often is going to show me any problems pretty quickly if it has them. Particularly with electronics, this is true.

My sportjet has about 50 hours on it after the first year, zero problems. I didn't get the extended warrantee. I'd recommend passing, unless you want to make the salesman some extra money.

$600 a year! Do you ask if you get a kiss with it? That buys an awful lot of repairs.

If it's like the regular warrantee, it probably excludes the stuff we'd actually need, like impellor damage.

I've got 3 1/2 years and 240 hours on my SJ. I've had only one major issue, the Stator (electrical charging unit, not the impellor one) went bad at about 120 hours. I know at least one other 175 SJ that had the same problem. It was not warranted and cost about $200 to fix.

http://www.warrantydirect.com

When I purchased my Intruder SJ back in 1998, I purchased an extended warranty through this company, 5 years, for under $600 total!!!. Covered more parts than did the Mercury warranty, or the one Stevens Marine offered...any repairs were just $50, the mechanics just billed WarrantyDirect through their card I had. It was a big selling point for the person who bought the boat from me, after the factory warranty had expired.

Warranties more often are purchased for peace of mind, not because the actually get used alot. If it hadn't been for that company, I sure wouldn't have got one, no way would I have spent the $1660 that Mercury wanted!!!! I would rather pay $600 at once, than maybe run up a big credit card bill after my one year warranty expired. Note that the big mark-ups come from the middle men, often times twice. Most all warranties that come from a dealer are just a way to pad their bottom line, at no cost to themselves.

I believe Highwater purchased an extended warranty on his SJ, from the above site.

ALL extended warranties are a complete RIPOFF! Whether its for a car, boat, TV, VCR, DVD, or that “stain protection” for your new couch. :hoboy: It's more like 99% profit not 90%. The next time you buy something where you are offered one of these extended warranty’s, think about this: The stores make way more money on selling the warranty than the product they’re selling, 9 times out of 10 each commissioned salesperson has a quota to meet, and there is a contest with big payoffs for the person that sells the most warranty’s. Also take a look at how the salesperson rings the sale up if they “give” you the warranty for “free”. In some places, employment is based on how well a person sells the warranty. :depressed:

90 hrs (2001) on my SJ and 150hrs (1998) on Pops and not a problem.

When I bought my Predator Willie already had me signed up for the extended warranties on the SJ and the kicker.
