Okay,

What is it with these fish? Have I just run in to the low end of the gene pool with the fish I've been near lately, or is this a common thing?

A week ago Friday I went fishing with Fishing Sensation, or more affectionately, FS. Anyway, he hooks this buck steelhead, brings it to hand and releases it. Notice the marks below the dorsal fin, and above the pectoral fin.

About 10 minutes later, same hole, FS hooks up again. Look familiar?

Saturday, Josh hooked and lost a steelhead in my favorite "rock hole". Five casts later I hook a steelhead with the same exact coloring, within 10 yards of where Josh hooked this. I am fairly certain it was the same fish.

Sunday, I catch a steelhead in my "rock hole" and another fisherman casts and hooks a silver as I am walking back to my "rock", and he loses the fish. His line is frayed, so while he changes set-ups, I cast back to my spot, and hook a silver with the same mark on it's back and bring it in.

Today, I am fishing with Gooose and he hooks a colored up Summer fish in the "rock hole" and after a short battle, the fish comes off. About 5 casts later, Wham!, I get a nice hit from a VERY similarly colored Summer fish within a few feet of where Gooose hooked his fish.

What's up with this? Have you experienced the same thing? This makes me think that once you find a biter, keep on it until you hook it. How many times have you had a hit in a particular run, lose your eggs, rebait, and then the next cast, Wham!, fish on?

Just thought I'd share.

A friend of mine and I caught the same 15 pound Steely 3 times in 30 minutes backbouncing for Springers on the North Umpqua one time--absolutely no doubt it can be done. Makes a guy wonder how often this happens? I always feel like I'll get another chance if I get a bite--if not the same one, another!.

Last fall, while fishing the Salmon RIver near Riggins, my friend Dave caught a small nate steelie with 3 scars in a triangle pattern on its head. He released it. The next day, I caught the same fish in the same spot. It seems more likely that it would happen in a small stream, but that's a pretty big river up there...

Bobber fishing tidewater for chinook: One guy misses a fish, the next bobber to hit the spot goes down! This one is almost a sure thing.

If I miss one I just hope my buddies either did not see exactly where I went under or are not aware of the phenomena. With the regulars, as soon as you miss one and are frantically re-baiting the bobbers are landing in the miss zone! FISH ON! D'OH!!
