Fished outside of St. Helens yesterday......very foggy in the morn. Only caught 10 shakers during the out going tide, once it changed nada. Very slow with everyone I spoke with at the launch, did not hear of any keepers.
Wanted to go to the gorge...too much wind :depressed: .....should have gone the KP...."see tacklebusters report".
I was in the KP area yesterday and from what I saw and heard tacklebusters success was the exception rather than the rule.
We tried some of our usual spots (deeper water) with very little action. Those guys that fish the punch bowl in the fog either have more downstairs than me or less upstairs. We checked with some ifishers that fished by us earlier and moved and they found some biters out on the flats, 45' +/-, rather than in the holes. They were kind enough to invite us in beside them and we immediatly started hooking fish! Then the current died about an hour later and it was all over.
It almost looked like salmon season out there yesterday with all the boats on the water and at the ramp at Cathederal in the morning.
I think it's time to get the boat to Stevens for servicing.
COME ON RAIN!

SMJ,
In my humble opinion, the fish are not yet stacking in the deeper holes. There are a series of fresh water clam beds on the 40 to 55 foot range on the Washington side of the river. I have found the sturgies to feed along this area until the smelt start to show and the water temp starts to drop. Then the fish will stack in the deeper holes like the punch bowl and all the others. We have been consistantly boating 20 plus fish a trip using this method. It may take a little moving around but my theory is as good as gold.
Well puddles, We kept getting bites but started to go up stream with the tide. Went to start the kicker to hold us in place and the needle in the carb was stuck and it spewed gass all over inside of the cowling and wouldn't stop. We went to pull the anchor and chewed up the sea anchor....
Went in a little early to beat the crowds.
Nice meeting you guys!
Tacklebuster, That makes good sense, thanx for the info, I'll try to put it to good use.

Tacklebuster is right, thats where we have been doing our best, but we haven't caught a keeper since last saturday. Talked to OSP today and they said that one boat had four keepers down river. Just ain't happening for us. :depressed:

Saw that the tides were early and late and opted not to go out this weekend.
Planning on a sturgeon hunt next weekend in the St. Helens area.
Last weekend we scored about 12 shakers but nothing in the keeper range. One was a 40" that my wife brought in (her first...too bad it wasn't a keeper).
It has seemed slow out there lately, I think we need the rain bad.
Seemed like Smelt and Squid were the winners last weekend. Don't know what we will be using next weekend.
