Fished a couple of hours on Friday and this morning in the Portland area outside Kelley Point. 47 fish total to the boat with 25 or so of them in the 38-41 inch range. We did manage to tag a 42 inch fish today and had 3 more that were real close. A lot of people out in the area the last two days so let's hear some reports. All fish were caught on smelt and squid. The bite was very light on both days with only a couple of fish giving the pole a good shaking in the holder.

WaterDog and his Pops was next to me today and they put on quite a show as well. He nailed a nice fat keeper. When we started it was just our two boats in our area but before it was over we had some company. Didn't seem to matter much cause the only two boats that were spanking the sturgies were the two that started there

Zzzzz's,
How did you guys do? I looked for you on the way in but didn't see ya. Sorry about Friday Husker but I didn't know I was going to try her for a couple of hours until the night before.

Man what a day on the water. Since it was me and Pops we got on the water at a decent time. We had about 25 fish to the boat as well. The fat keeper was 47".

Now for the question of the week:

Since when do we HOGLINE for stugeon? :hoboy:

As Tacklebuster said we were into the fish big time. Obviously some folks were watching us and in 30 minutes we had seven boats in line. You would of thought it was September and the URB's we running. graemlins/eek13.gif

Anyway, for the same two days I totaled 35 fish to the boat and about half were 36"+ so the salmon gear got a good workout. Would have been there today but couldnt gather up a crew.

I know where I will be fishing next Saturday for C&E's Sturgie Challenge.

Well, instead of the rubes hoglining with you, they could've just dropped their hook 100ft behind your boat!

Saw that happen 2x last Saturday!

Boy what a shaker rodeo out at t6. We got several that were real close but had to move up into the willamette to find some bigger fish.

Went out to the fisheries on the 28th [Thanksgiving]. Tried anchoring by Horsetail falls... Way too windy for me. It only took a couple of waves over my bow to convince me to move. Went back up just above the fishery. We caught 13 shakers on smelt. One of them was 38" No keepers. graemlins/berry.gif
Went back out on the 30th. and decided to try launching at Dalton Point and fish near the wall. My buddy and I got there around 7:30. I have never seen it blow that hard in the George. It looked to be gusting to 55-60 mph. So we hightailed it to Chinook landing. Much better. We tried North side G-island. Nothing. Moved to the powerline holes just below the mouth of the Sandy. Looked to be about 20 boats.
We then resumed our shaker-fest in about 74 feet. My buddy snagged the bottom and had to cut his gear off. He got disgouraged and wanted to call it quits @ around 2pm. I promptly re-rigged his rod, and he caught a nice fresh 42&3/4" graemlins/applause.gif I have never seen sharp diamonds like that before. No keeper for me though. They seemed to be very interestred in smelt with a sandshrimp wrap, topped with sturgeon feast scent. I had my eyes peeled for ifish decals... didn't see any.

Hey TB:

Nice to see you on Saturday. Our report was 30+ shakers to the boat hitting evry kind of bait that we threw at them. The largest was a little over 40" so no keepers for us, but a nice day. Everyone got plenty of practice catching and releasing so we'll be ready when the bigger fish show up.
