I have been following this site since about July and have learned a great deal. Having spent most of my fishing formalitive years on some river bank in Eastern OR, I knew little about proper river manners on the Columbia, not to mention how to catch fish out of the big creek. The info on this board should be required reading for all that venture forth on the river.........Here's my required newby story
When my son was about 3 years old I was introduced to multi-tasking before it was a fashionable phrase. I had to go fishing but, I was also faced with daycare duties. Hoping to get some fishing in and at the same time keep the young un entertained I turned him loose with a fishing pole with just a bobber on the end. I thought he could work on his casting technique without me having to worry about him hooking himself. This worked well.... Fast forward about 12 years to a summer ago and my son, now 15, says one day out of the blue "I remember when you use to take me fishing and only put a bobber on my line". I promptly reminded him that he still outfished me. Moral of the story, carefull with those young uns they have powerfull memories.
P.S. the young un suffered no permanent damage other than being a hard core fishing junkie.

Welcome to the site. I also have a youngster that I had to provide daycare for on my days off. I elected to daycare him in my sled for springers. He was a ball to have around, and there were some memories that will last a lifetime.

Welcome aboard. The good thing is you got him hooked on fishing early, remind him of that.
Great story.

Welcome aboard.
When my kids were little I would take them to the Ketchikan Childrens Library, get them some books and set them in the window watching the creek. I would then steelhead fish where they could watch. When they got finished reeding they would come out and "help" me.

Welcome Aboard Rod Holder
Kids are great - while the attention span is short, had mine(5 y/o) begging to put all the eggs in the bait loop last time we were out - then he had to be the official applier of Marie's "stink" (OK - so he doesn't have a fishes fine taste)
Enjoy Ifish

Never ceases to amaze me that there are still really good monikers out there!
Rod Holder! I love it!

Thanks for coming to visit!
There are so many new members here lately, that I feel like a broken record. Have to think of something new besides, "welcome to fish!"
