Got up bright and early this morning to try for some winters at Barton park. Fished hard for about three hours and finally got a taker on a red and white jig. Had a pretty tired summer fish to the bank when the hook popped out. I would've let this one go anyways, he was looking pretty sorry. Saw one other summer taken and that was it, sorry no winters yet.

My dad and I were there too trying the drift fishing thing. Big Nada, the fish could see us coming a mile away and they just weren't feeling friendly.

Now don't get depressed boy's and girls. No rain, low water, leaves.etc. Just slow down and pay attention to details..little things. Lots of summers, and a handfull of big bright winters- so far nates. Watched a couple guys new to the system catch 3 on flys on Thurs. We lost 2. One on bobber/bait, and one on diver. No reason-the buggers just come off??
Coast is low and slow. Clack and Sandy is low and slow. Fish harder for less, is still alot better than not fishing at all. How about a streamside BBQ. Pretty weather!!! Sure is good to be back on IFISH. Jimmy

Jp, good to see you back on ifish! Were you out yesterday? Was a gorgeous day with lots of driftboats. Handed one off to my 8 year old which he lost, now I get to give him the box of RITZ he brought to our campsite at the last flotilla.. Awesome day on the river.

Hey Neutron sorry about the lost one. But you can't blame it on the kid he's been watching his dad fish to much.

Catch-22,
I was the Wet Willy on the Clack Thanksgiving morning. No winters to the boat yet but caught a nice little 7# summer hen. Got in a quick drift from Carver to Riverside. Which boat were you? It was low, slow and clear but small chunks of roe worked for me.

Dark forest green with white Loomis and Owner signage and a guide sticker.
We stuck with the jigs all day. Fish were scattered and spooky. Good job on the one.
I want a winter real bad.

Fished Barton to Riverside yesterday. That's right! Nobody ever accused me of being too smart.ha Had to push most the way home. Did take some summers home for my guys. Talked with 3 other boats that had caught fish as well. All summers. a little tough finding water. Noticed it was on the drop all day yesterday while we were out. With the water so SLOW, doing that double drift is really not an option right now. See some sleds trying to get out. I'm sure they'll be spending some money this next week on shoe's/pumps. Jimmy

DJ says "Summer levels and summer steelhead. No winters for us but plenty of summers-me and two friends hooked 16 or 17 and landed 13 yesterday."

I was 0-2 today. Fished this afternoon at McIver with my nephew. We checked out Dog Creek (? - near the hatchery) - first time there. Being worked over pretty good. Heard of 3 taken.
We ended up going down to the Disc Golf day use area and fished the ledges. Used a stopper knot on the bobber and jig set-up to get deep enough (about 5-7') (as well as to make casting a bit easier). Sand shrimp tails and scent produced nothing. graemlins/idea.gif Then I added the pink worm ...... First time I tried that. Had two hook-ups and both came unbuttoned graemlins/1zhelp.gif The first was neat in that the fish actually rolled and I cast to it - fish on! (Then fish off :hoboy: ). I hooked the second on nearly the next cast through the same slot - could tell it was a different fish (smaller than the first). Couldn't scare up anything after that.
Oh well, that teaches me that changing your presentation can make a difference. So, I am learning.

How is the boat pressure out there now. We floated early last week and landed some summers, all hens, there was not one boat on the river. I've learned to appreciate days like that. I bet that changed now that the reports are flowing in.

Hey Marky-Sharky...The kid put a hurt on em today...he was off from school (teachers!). We bank fished the park, he hooked and landed two by himself (8 yrs old!) on pink worm under a bobber. I released two, one a good size colored up buck with sloppy fin clip and one un-clipped. Lost one other. Fun stuff,
gonna hurt listening to mitchell talk smack though. My friend and I were bustin up.

Hey did all yall see the pictures of David Jhonsons munged up hens the other day from the Clakamas. How ethical was that to keep those fish? Should he, as a guide, be bragging about egg hunting for those munged up fish?

Word up Ice Ice Baby-What's the matter, jelouse?
There was nothing wrong what so ever with those fish.
Those guys were very happy with there fish and so was I. They were better than a lot of winter fish guys keep.
Peace :hoboy:

I'm with David. I believe he and his friends went out and had a great day. Were they targeting hens? Idoubt it. Those fish looked fine to me. If I didn't already have fish in the frezzer I would have kept them as well. And if they had eggs all the better.

I'm confused BlackIce. This doesn't look like a guided trip to me. This looks Like a guide, a writer for the number one mag in the NW, and another friend having a good time on the river banks nailing some fish. Last year, my cousins and I did the same thing in what looks to me to be the same spot. The summers stack there in huge numbers. They're all hatchery fish there. What does being a guide change
when he's off work? If it was a paid trip and his clients want to go spank some summers, should he say no?
I think you're a little out of line.
By the way, I nailed two there last week in less than an hour and it didn't feel unethical. It felt fun!!

Looks like easter egg hunting to me dave-ice. I once read an article in STS "Why Are Eggs So Effective" (AUG-SEPT 2002). Sound familiar Dave. Page 69 discusses the ethics of easter egg hunting on the bottom of the page. I do not believe that for all of the 13 fish landed that every single fish was a hen as shown in the picture of six hens. "Please don't just fish for fertilizer and bait" (Page 69)
P.S. I enjoyed the article- practice what you preach
peace out

Ice---You are way off base here..... Dave is a very respected guide as well as great fisherman. I have personally been in his boat and fished around him many times. Those fish are all good fish, and as far as ethics.......You dont know the man so I would shut your mouth before you end up with your foot in it. Dave - dont worry about what one doughball says, He obviously doesnt have a clue.......

Sure seems to me that a lot of folks are defending Dave. Now I understand that sometimes many folks can think alike and still be wrong. But I bet that 49 out of 50 disagree with you Blackice. Thats a 2% chance that you are right. I'm not much of a gambling man, but I think I would place my money on Mr. Johnson.

Ease up Ice,
I got a couple last week looked just like that and they cut real nice. Whats your beef man?
If you are having a hard time catching fish and its making you bitter, perhaps you should book a trip with Dave to cheer you up
I hear he really knows how to put people into the fish.
