Ahh, comon Nickle, when was the last time you put in a full day at the office anyway!??
But really, OCF, even if Pietros says 5 to 8 we should plan for for 6 to 6:30 to allow for folks to arrive before expecting too much.
Remember this is no host and the idea is for fellowship and to drop presents off. I suspect we will want to publicly embarrass Jen Jen and a few others, but there really doesn't need to be a formal agenda does there???

Hey Jen! Something strange about the voting results! The yes's and no's looks good, but below in the "how many in your party" box, it should only be tracking the numbers provided by the YES votes above. Instead, it shows a total number of respondents answers for both no and yes votes. Currently there are 52 responses total to the yes or no, 32 yes and 20 no. So there should only be 32 responses below in the "how many are you bringing" category. But is shows that 52 folks responded to how many they're bringing. This kinda looks like a problem, or am I missing something here?

Ok - So us west siders that have to suffer through life threatening traffic to get to this need to know the best way to go. I belive that from Hillsboro area hwy 26 to downtown and then the Ross Island bridge to Mcadam is the shortest/fastest. I'm not sure it's the best though. Alternatives I can think of are even uglier though (Scholls Ferry/217/Lake Oswego/over the Ross Island.... OR... all the way down I5 to 205 and back up North - -yeechhh). graemlins/berry.gif

5-cents(and all west siders) these mapquest directions make a lot more sense to me. It's not the Sellwood by the way, it is Ross island even on those complicated directions in the above post.
Starting on the Sunset:
9: Merge onto US-26 E. 9.3 Miles (14.89 Km)
10: Take the I-405 S exit towards THE DALLES/SALEM. 0.2 Miles (0.31 Km)
11: Merge onto I-405 S. 0.2 Miles (0.33 Km)
12: Take the exit 0.2 Miles (0.26 Km)
13: Stay straight to go onto SW BROADWAY. 0.1 Miles (0.20 Km)
14: SW BROADWAY becomes SW 5TH AVE/US-26 E. 0.1 Miles (0.18 Km)
15: Turn LEFT onto SW SHERIDAN ST/US-26 E. 0.1 Miles (0.20 Km)
16: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto SW 3RD AVE/US-26. 0.1 Miles (0.12 Km)
17: Stay straight to go onto SW ARTHUR ST/US-26. 0.1 Miles (0.19 Km)
18: Turn RIGHT onto SW FRONT AVE/SW NAITO PKWY. 0.4 Miles (0.70 Km)
19: Go STRAIGHT. 0.0 Miles (0.04 Km)
20: Stay straight to go onto US-26. 0.1 Miles (0.13 Km)
21: US-26 becomes US-26/ROSS ISLAND BRIDGE. 0.5 Miles (0.81 Km)
22: Take the OR-99E ramp. 0.1 Miles (0.19 Km)
23: Merge onto SE MCLOUGHLIN BLVD. 3.6 Miles (5.81 Km)
24: Turn LEFT onto SE MILPORT RD. 0.0 Miles (0.06 Km)

Mel,
I have room in the back of my truck for ya!
IMHO mapblast is easier to use. Go to the site, click on driving directions, put in your address as the starting point and the destination address... bingo draws you a map. If you have trouble following it click on the more detail option.
You probably know how to do all this any way.
You can go the secret way... just follow Beaverton/Hillsdale Hwy all the way out. I think that puts you down by Johns Landing and it is an easy shot to the Sellwood Bridge.
You know the boat does sound easier
I would have a long way to go for pizza. Any address I could send a gift to instead? graemlins/hearton.gif

Gift suggestions... I really like pearls..
Ohh.... you mean the kids... Think about what your kids or grand kids would like. If you are not in the kid business here's what's in...
Older kids... Games are great, the more expensive the better (Gameboy, etc). For the little girls, they love the little sets of perfume, hand lotion and/or nail polish. Barbie is always hot. and Hot Wheels are even hotter if you talk to a 6 yr old. I think every little boy needs at least one Tonka dump truck too. Scoobie Doo is in the groove again and Harry Potter can cast one winning spell. Stuffed animals go over good for the little guys. Elmo is always a winner. There are movies for all different ages, so videos are always an easy pick (don't get DVD's these people are down on their luck and probably don't have one).
Hope this gives you ifishers some ideas!

Hmmm... Greybeard, I already volunteered to use my truck/canopy for this. I didn't think about the Horse Trailer. We've got a Fully enclosed two horse, that and a truck should do it! Just need some good heavy duty clean boxes to keep the horse stuff off the toys  (ya it's cleaned out but I wouldn't be eating off it or using it as a filet table!)

We'll need booxes any way we go, hopefuly u-haul will supply them. They're a great place to get them anyway (WAY cheaper if you need to ship than using mail boxes and more)!

Just an FYI for the Pizza, Adult Beverage and other Soda.
I am NOT going to cover the bill and have everyone pay me back later. I have done this in the past and ended up buying $250 worth of pizza and got $125 in return. Not a good investment. I would rather that when you come in you can either order your Pizza and drinks then or take up a collection and order then. Either way does not matter.
We can run a tab but who is going to be the one responsible at the end to ensure that the tab gets covered????
See everyone on the 4th. Maybe some lucky person will be able to take home some steelhead if I catch any by then.

What are our options for boxes to transport the gifts in?
1. Get boxes donated from Uhaul.
2. Buy boxes from Uhaul
3. Have an Ifish member step forward that has access to boxes.
4. Have each vehicle that will be attending the meeting bring one box.
Any other options?
Another question: Since we will be bringing unwrapped gifts, who will wrap the gifts for the kids?

Great NEWS!!
Does anyone have a problem with Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital receiving our help?
I just spoke to the lady at Emanuel, and she said that usually they have to haul the presents for the children with cancer over in carts, and this year they have hardly any presents!!!! She says she has been able to take them by hand.
She thinks it's due to the economy...
Anyway, she sent me all the goods, their wish list, and hints...
You can specify if it's for the Hopsital, or for the children themselves. If you buy a big present, like a Nintendo, it should probably stay in the hospital, since they use them there. They even hook them up together, so kids can play together!
I'm so excited to help!!!
Is it a done deal? Can we help them? Oh please!?!?!?!

We will need a large truck or van to store the presents in after the party, until the office is open the next day. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Do you think a U Haul might loan us one for free?
Any other suggestions?
I don't want to be stuck at Pietro's all night, and it would be nice, if on the way in to Pietro's we could just drop our gifts off in the truck?

Greybeard - thanks, I sent Hog an e-mail about this as well. Waiting to hear from Hog or Ripper on the truck and BOXES?
From Hogs post; "OK, ripper, when you read this make a call to a milwaukie area U-Haul and see if you can get them to donate one of their $19/day local trucks to store and forward presents in. If they won't reserve one anyway and Hog and rip's company will foot the bill"

Wow! I am so excited! I can't wait for the party.
I think the children's hospital is a great idea. My baby Travis was in the hospital on Christmas eve, he was only 3 weeks old at the time. He had a minor surgery on Christmas day... I think we got one small stuffed animal from the hospital. It was really sweet, but compared to the outpouring we received at Dorenbechers....
When Hannah was at Dorenbechers on Easter Sunday, they had the best Easter baskets for all the kids. They knew Hannah liked Harry Potter and her basket was full of Harry Potter stuff. Every day we were there, someone on the staff was giving her something.
I have heard wonderful things about Emanual children's hospital. I know from experience how much those little gifts mean to the patients and their families. The kids at Emanual are just as sick as the kids at Dorenbechers, so I am all for giving back a little of what my family has been given.
Jen, what do you need help with? Let me know, I really want to help. Do you need help delivering the stuff the next day?
Ifish is so great!

Here's the update from afar:
ripper called U-Haul in OC Monday morning and they directed him to U-Haul HQ where he explained the cause. They are considering donating a rig or at least giving a major discount and are to get back to him, I suppose in a day or two.
We'll hit them up for boxes too, but another great place to do that is the local moving companies. There is one that has a warehouse behind my office. They frequently have a big supply of used ones and I may be able to talk them into "loaning" or donating some. I'll check it out when I'm back next week. (Unless someone comes up with something before then). Would really rather see everyone spend money for gifts rather than buing boxes if we can avoid it! The bring your own box idea is a good one too, maybe not everyone, but bigger boxes would help.
I figure we will be fine with the standard smaller U-Haul truck, even if there are large amounts of presents. Those suckers will hold LOTS of gifts. I like the idea of boxes though, as transportation will be a challenge into the hospital. It occurred to me that if people just drop them off on their way in then someone has to guard the truck all night. I would certainly like to socialize some. Maybe if we go that way I can get some volunteers to take 15 or 20 minute "shifts" of guard duty. Whaddya think? Anybody up for short stints of reception/guard duty?
Jennie, you will have to get up and make the presentation of the gifts to the hospital in the morning. I can hold the loot in the U-haul overnight but probably will be able to use a volunteer or two in the morning to take the gifts in. I'll give ripper a few hours off for this if I haven't sent him to some exotic place like Fargo to do some work, but another couple of bodies might be good. Should actually be fun!?
Jennie, is this for sure that we don't wrap? And who will?
Usually I try to stay bah, humbug about Xmas until after Thanksgiving as a matter of principle, but this is such a great idea it is hard not to feel excited about it!!
3 cheers to Jenn!!!

Hog - We can take a couple boxes into the Pizza parlor. When they get full run them out to the (locked) truck and grab some empties. That way no one will have to babysit the truck and parking lot (It will be raining - right?). It'll be good excersize for those of us who consume to much Pizza and Cervesa!
I'm wondering about the gift delivery too! Jennie - what did Emanual say about delivery/storage wrapping etc.

Hogmaster and all:
I volunteer to pull guard duty on the truck for an hour or two and help unload it. I'm recently retired so I have lots of time. The warm fuzzy feeling from helping needy kids will be even better than catching that 60 lb chinook I've been searching for.
I'm trying to call Jessica from the hospital to find out the details on just how they give the gifts to the kids. I understand why they want gifts that are unwrapped, but I want to find out if they wrap the gifts just before they give them. I'll let you know what I find out.

Jennie was all over this, and had already emailed Jessica on the subject. I hope I didn't step on your toes by making the call, Jennie. You're the one making it happen, I just wanted to help.

I'll be there. I just called Jessica at the Children's Hospital because I want to donate some packaged Star Wars action figures that weren't on the list. She said it would be fine because kids would like to receive that kind of toy. Sounds like they would like to receive anything the kids would enjoy. She also said they are careful about determining who's old enough to play with what too.

Here's the latest on the truck.
U-Haul didn't get back to ripper at all in a week. I tried this morning and got the same pushback he got ("I can only take your name and number and somebody will get back to you").
So I wrote an email to U-Haul on the web and explained the situation. It would be nice to know one way or the other if they want to participate or not.
My company will get a truck one way or the other, but after a week of being too busy to even return a call I don't think it will be U-Haul unless they want to "step up".
Jennie, I will be responsible for keeping the gifts overnight at my house under the eye of a complete raccoon family and Maxine the loud barking wonder dog. Thanks, Graybeard and fishisabonus for volunteering drop off duty - It should be fun the next day too!

OK, folk, we have a truck!
After giving that one rental organization an opportunity to participate in the provisioning of a truck but being totally ignored by them, a call was made to Penske Truck Rental.
Penske has graciously agreed to participate with my company (gratuitous plug here Jennie) Interactive Northwest, Inc.
Special thank you to Kevin Weigle of Penske who was gracious in considering the request and reasonable in asking only for a small flat fee and insurance coverage for the rental.
In fact, I found all the Penske people I spoke with today to be very friendly and accessible.
Much different than I found with the "other" company, who consistently had an attitude of either "The answer is no, now hurry up and tell me the question" or "Someone will get back to you" but never did in spite of repeated requests to be contacted. This is nothing more that the facts and I have documented the lack of response. Too bad.
So, please consider the fine folks at Penske if you have need for a rental. I am sure you won't be disapointed!

Graybeard -
Email me and I will make a pizzamittee list with you, fishisabonus, Jennie, me and whoever else should be on it and we can come up with a few things.
Yeah, name tags would be good, and bringing some (bigger) boxes would be good. Also, a couple banners - one over the truck and one inside would be good. Nothing too fancy but the id'ing of who and what the event is seems good.
Also, we (people going) could probably help Pietros by pre-ordering pizzas as much as possible. That way they will staff appropriately and can probably produce them faster.
Remember, all, this is no-host so if possible you might want to connect with an ifish buddy or two for yer pie order. If not I'm sure that things can work by ordering when you get there, but just looking at ways to make it a smooth evvent for all!

Look forward to seeing everyone there.
We just moved so I will bring a bunch of boxes with me to pack the toys in if they are needed.

Okay, looks like I will be there. Had to get clearance from flight control. She's Christmas Shopping with the wee one and the other two are at church. That leaves me watching TV or coming to the party. Party sounds like much more fun.
This is a great idea folks. Way to go Jen.

Here's the instructions in text for those so inclined.
I don't care how you get to McLoughlin Blvd or which direction you will be going on it. Just GET ONTO McLOUGHLIN BLVD. The light you will be turning East on (West would dump you into the Willamette) is Harrison Street. Harrison runs between a Texaco station and Reliable Credit. You will head East on Harrison for one block and reach a stop sign. Turn LEFT (North) at the stop sign. Continue down this road for a quarter to a half mile and Pietros is on your right. Big red and white building.
There. Easy enough. If you can get onto McLoughlin you can get to Pietros. It's in scenic downtown Milwaukie (chuckle).

The answer may be in this thread but I don't have time to go through the whole thing.
Is this a kid friendly event? If it is I will be there with my wife and two sons. If not, sorry I can't make it.

Stopped at Freddie's today to buy gifts. They are offering 10% off all Mattel toys when you buy three, supposedly limited to three per purchase. I explained that the toys were for the kids at Emanuel Children's Hospital and they took the 10% off the whole pile!
Thanks, Fred Meyer's!

Greybeard,
You are correct. I have everything set up for 6 until 11 PM(closing). There is plenty of room to park a few trucks just outside the doors to load up with toys..
I called the Pizza Parlor last night and everything is set up.. Remember that this is very kid friendly place. They have a new arcaid full of games and plenty of help to give us all the pizza and drinks that we will need..
After looking at the results of the poles we are looking at just under 200 people. This is great. The place with hold 242 so basicly we will have the entire place to ourselves....
See you all there. I will try to be there around 5 tonight...
Hogmaster

The truck is small. On purpose! I want to have to tie toys to the top! Sounds like we are going to have a great turnout!
One more time as a few reminders:
Look to the home page link for suggestions on gifts.
Unwrapped
Bring family and friends! You lurkers are welcome too!
If you are coming as a group, you might want to call Pietros early and have them pre-make a pie for faster service. If not, don't worry, you can meet friends there and/or order a personal sized pizza when you get there.
Remember the ifish for kids 20% discount when you order!
Seeya all there!
O'City F ... the count is up to 247 on the poll ... but I'm sure that's merely an estimate as some decisions will have changed. It also seems likely that not everyone will show up at once ... but it sure will be a great party! And the Emanuel Kids should have a little brighter Christmas for our efforts. graemlins/applause.gif

Holy cow...I wasn't paying attention. Got a dinner date with Jan and an outta towner from her parent company...but will try to swing by on my way home.
For those of you coming from the west side....
After traffic hours...come in on the Sunset, cross the Ross Island bridge...exit on the east end onto McLoughlin Blvd. Follow McLoughlin south til you get to the first light in Milwaukie...Harrison..I think. Left on Harrison to the stop sign, then left on Main St. Pietro's is about 200 yds on your right.
Traffic hours...Wait til after traffic hours...and use the directions above.
That's the easiest way I know, and most direct.
Hope to see you there.
