I lost two crab traps at crab harbor today. The tide started ripping and they were gone. They both have my name on them. They had red and white floats.

I have a cousin that moved to Alaska about 15 years ago. On my first trip up to see him we were gonna go out halibut fishing in Cook Inlet so we decided to throw all 6 of the crab pot in to see what the crab fishin was like. We got all 6 pots out with 250' of line on each,(110'water) new buoys, fresh bait, visions of halibut and crab dinner danced in our heads. We moved in shallower water to fish for small halibut, looked back, all 6 gone! We told the guy behind the counter where we bought the new buoys what had happened and that we had put extra weight in the pots.He asked "how much extra?" We told him about 10lbs. Ten minutes later he was still laughing, as it turns out 30lbs. is the norm up there.

i rented some rings, lost all 3,when i came back in and told the guy he said dont worry about it $ that he would go out in the morning at low slack and get them for us, he explained that the traps were probaly were we put them, but the current pulled the bouys under,so we left our number in case i had to pay for them...never heard back......thank goodness
