Looks like the Family is going to go to Waldport day after Thanksgiving to stay with some friends. I don't know this area at all, I will have 3 Boys with me to entertain. Fishing is the thing that they want to do. The only boat that I have access to is a 14' with a 8 hp. I read that the Salmon fishing is open to the end of November so that is a thought. I would like to maybe do some trolling & anchor and run plugs. These boys are a little young to drift or bobber for Salmon & Steelhead. Please if you know the area I would be greatful for information, I want this to be a fun trip for the boys    .
Thank you all

My suggestion is to fish in the river and not in the bay. Fish no lower than drift creek. Troll with a blue fox if you have them. You might get a chance to use the net for real.

I was there this morning, fishing from the bank for a bit on my way home from civil war elk camp...
Several rigs parked along the road, few boats in tidewater.
I caught a nice 7-pound jack about quarter mile below Five Rivers Bridge...another guy down there had one, too...
Bobber fishing, tillamook style, with eggs I bought (trip-on-a-whim) at McKinley's marina...Keith there had the info, too...been coho, chinook and some steelhead up there...
I drifted the eggs just off the bottom in deeper runs below fast water...
The fish won't go anywhere...water will stay pretty low..
Best bet is probably crabbing inthe bay...been some big ones.
Good Luck

Fish
Don't forget crabbing.......its a great bay for the sand spiders and I bet the young ones would have a blast. With the lack of rain we are having, I bet it's awesome.

The Alsea right now is really really low. Some fish are being caught here and there in the lower portions of the river. Drift gear with bait or bobbers have produced a few fish, but the report from Sat. is that it is pretty slow Also, thought I'd give you a heads up and let you know that you cannot fish above Fall Creek. I saw a few guys this weekend fishing (plus one boat) above Fall Creek. The Staters are patroling the river for this until Dec. 1st. Thats when the entire system opens up for fishing. Anyways a good bank spot is the Barclay hole around the 12 mile marker. Its just down river from the Thissel bridge. Look for a crued boat ramp. At any rate good luck.
