View Full Version : Rogue River Summers
Thanks to Dave Barten, Terry and I had a great day on the Rogue yesterday. We hooked 22 of these summer beauties! If you haven't drifted this river before you need to make plans and give it a try. Make sure you go with someone that knows the river as there is a few nasty rapids to negotiate. http://www.ifish.net/uploads/535715327.jpg http://www.ifish.net/uploads/180116327.jpg

Rags,
All I can see are two? What happened to the other 20? Why didn't I get a call? Did you catch them a bobber and gig? Snapshot will be bummed when he see your catch of the day.
Nice Fishy's

Wow, great fish and sounds like a great day. If you dont mind my asking A couple questions, 1) Is Dave Barten a guide? If so, whats his #. Also, 2) What section of the rouge did you all drift? Is there a shuttle avalible?

NoPilgrim, I couldn't post all the pictures people would get bored. I talked with Snapshot, he wants to go. Anytime your ready let's hit it.
Uglygreen, no Dave is a customer and one good fisherman that knows the Rogue. We drifted about a 7 mile stretch just outside of Grants Pass. I don't think there is a shuttle but you might want to check with a local tackle shop. We only kept two fish, both clipped of course and released all others healthy.

Shuttles for the middle and upper Rogue are These:
Grants Pass area
Affordable Shuttles (Sharon McCall)
(541)479-1042
DMJ Shuttles
(541) 476-4382
I've used both and they are both great. The fee is $12 for most floats. If using Affordable, call the day before, as she also shuttles rafters and canyon trips to the coast on occasion.
Upper Rogue (Medford area and above)
Tony's Shuttles
(541)826-2526
cell (541) 821-4222
I use these folks alot also, and are also great.
the fee is $10-$12 depending on the float

Okay, so I don't know much about the Rogue, but it's November 25th and you're catching summers??? Up where I live, South Santiam, summers come in about March and are mostly done by June, although we continue to catch late arrivals and re-runs all the way through August. These are obviously bright fish, but summers? graemlins/1zhelp.gif
Sounds like you had a great day - congrats!

RAGS,
I can see it was indeed a happy Birthday for you. May you have many more just like this one.
I don't know where you keep coming up with pictures of you holding fish. The backdrop I use for photos is of a coastal stream and someone has painted a really nice one of the Rogue for you this time.
My timing is really off. I plan to go to Seatte and get a trip with you and Carl and you go to the Rogue. Suppose if I plan to go to the Rogue you will be in Seattle.
I know, it was all in the line of duty too. Let's get out for a few hours over the holidays. What do you think of the Gator fishing upriver with all the heavy hitters Saturday?

Thanks for the kind words Snapshot. Fishin Optician, you need a few more years of experience before we will let you in our boat. Keep practicing and I will see what I can do.

Thanks for your consideration Rags. That fish you're holding: Is that a "summer" or are they sometimes called a "half pounder"? Up here in Washington we call them "spawner".

Them are some nice looking fish. Nice hat to the guy in the first picture.
Fishin Optician,
Maybe you should make yourself some new glasses, those are summer fish. Now be nice or us Oregon boys are going to come up and whack some of those zipperlip river fish. You know where I'm talking about. After we whack your fish then we will take your women and drink your wine!

Rags I'm sorry. Which summer was that fish from? '98,'99, ......'73? It looks like the same fish in the picture of you and CB. :hoboy:
