how many ifishers experiment with fishing poles, i mean like trolling plugs for salmon or anchor fishing, i`m always trying difrent action rods and have found out along time ago that some poles just plain wont catch fish with a certain techniqie, even the smallest diference the action of the rod sends to the plug makes a big diference. i am not one to go buy like a "hotshot" rod and hope it works, i also read where when someone asks like fishinmission what he is using they never ask what kind of fishing pole he uses, doesnt anyone feel that its important? i know i do.

boater, you described my life

I take a lot f pride in being able to advise potential clienst in the selection of the perfect rod.. in order to do that I must have a knwledge base that only comes from actually fishing lots of rods in a large number of techniques, in many, many different fishng conditions.
I call it research and development.. it is the part of our business that I enjoy the most!

I wanna know what I should buy... I spend most of my time running kfish for springers and trolling herring in Astoria for kings or silvers. What is the best rod for this? And reel for that matter?

Since you asked...

I would suggest the TH 1026c an 8'6" 12-25# fast action rod. handles trolling and bcktrolling situations very well.. doesnt have a mag. taper which allow it to laod up a bit better with a dier or 2-6oz of lead, yet still a nice tip to allow you to see what your kwikies are doing.

as for a reel?
my first suggestion would be a Shimano Calcutta 400c
my second would be a Shimano bantam 50
and lastly would be a Ambassadeur 6500

TH, what does the "c" mean? Is this a one piece rod? I have been looking and was considering the G Loomis 983 with a Abu 6500. But will consider the best value.

The "c" means its a casting rod.

I have a Rainshadow 1023c that I use for the same fishing you described NofishOn. It handles great. It is also 12-25lb fast action.
I love my Calcutta 401 TE for your reel question.

the "C" stands for casting.
is a two piece rod..

if you are looking for a 1 piece rod go with the TH 962 8' 12-25# I have a boat full of these during springer and fall tide water seasons and they are awesome!
