Since this is my first post, I thought I tell you about my first time fishing. I was either 5 or 6 years old and discovered some fishing gear in my Dad's junk drawer. He was a farmer and too busy this time of year, but after about 2 weeks and 2 million questions he said if I could find some worms he would fix me up. Needless to say, when he got home the next night I had my worms. We had a big pond on the farm about 1/2 mile from our house.
So, the next day I headed out with a stick, line, hook, and my worms. Dad had told me to go to the bottom of the spillway. I got my worm on and swung it over the side. Almost fifty years later its still hard to believe, but something felt funny on my stick. I lifted it and was a wiggling trout. I took off running for home. The fish was still on the hook. I couldn't get there fast enough. I was sooo proud of myself when I got to the kitchen to show my Mom.
She never let on that it was too small to keep. (4or5 inches)
Well, that was the start. Soon I had real gear and moved to the main pond. I had adventures there for the rest of my youth. What a wonderful childhood.
Do you remember your FIRST?

my first was panfish with a cane pole (yes, a real cane pole cut in my dad's back yard), worms, and those red and white bobbers. we caught enough that day to fill a 5 gallon bucket. can't wait to do it with my kids (none yet, but soon).

Welcome!
My first is indelibly marked by the small scar behind my ear that ocurred when my 8 year old sister cast with all her might into my 4 year old ear the same day!
At least the fish took some of the sting out (I think).

Welcome to ifish Papermaker
I like your story. Fishing with a stick and line and a can of worms.
I think my first fish was a Salmon out in my grandpas boat or a trout out in the pond. But my first steelhead, I was 9 or so and got it on a deep diving wiggle wart.

Our neighbor took me to Triangle Lake and I'm sure my first fish was a blue gill under a bobber. I remember laying on the dock and watching the little buggers worry the worm laden hook back and forth.

Great story. I was too young to remember my first fish but my Grandmother shows me the pictures at family reunions. I was probably about 2 and the fish was about a 3lb carp I think. Welcome aboard. graemlins/applause.gif
