The newspaper responded to your concerns about the story on the cost of hatchery raised fish with a Public Editor examination, " Omission allows report on fish costs to spawn suspicion (http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/dan_hortsch/index.ssf?/xml/story.ssf/html_standard.xsl?/base/editorial/1038056132305861.xml) ". Thanks for your diligence in pursuing this important issue and raising it on the newspaper's radar. Thanks to everyone who expressed their concerns!

Just read the story, and there are significant facts here:
1) It is the front page column in the Commentary section of the Sunday paper.
2) Dan Hortsch, Public editor wrote the column.
3) They contextually quote several of the ifishers without naming names.
4) They really do eat crow!
OK, so this isn't a lead story with fat headlines in the Metro section, but it is pretty significant that there is an admission of error and hopefully between this and the internal memo STG received regarding reviewing the "economic benefits" issue, next time there MAY be a a less sensational, more "contextual" story in the future.

Nice job, Skein, TR, C&E, (Pete you too I know wrote) and all of those who wrote and kept it on the radar. And Keta for getting the first thread started so many could "vent" about it.

I am sure many will say there is much to be done, but take a moment and enjoy the victory for this battle. The war will continue...

I guess the next logical step is to invite those guys fishing, both to further their fisheries education and as a thank-you. Anyone can make a mistake. Dan Hortsch owned up to it and made a good-faith effort to correct it. Looks like we owe him another letter - this time with a hand shake attached.

Keta, thanks for tipping us off to that article, and Hogmaster, thanks for getting the letters started. That showed real leadership. And to everybody else, writers and otherwise, thanks for helping to keep this going. The Ifish community is quite an organization. graemlins/applause.gif

"leadership".... PIGMISTRESS for govenor.
Republican or Democrat or other? Way to go you guys. Hey Gary, how many beaver hats did you buy and do I get to keep it? Looks like I owe you a fishing trip, I know a good golden bonefish spot right near your house  . That way I can pick you up at your beach front property without the towing trip  . Bill's article has been good lately, with today's article; it appears as though Jen is giving him lessons  . .

Great job everyone involved!!!

See what a difference we can make when we put our collective minds to it?

Also, the idea of taking these guys fishing is a great one. What better way for them to get first hand info. concerning the benefits of healthy fisheries.

Along these lines, if ever any of us has an opportunity or the inclination to create the opportunity, a day on the river with an elected official can go miles in helping them better understand what we are providing in terms of family recreation and economics.

Again, great effort folks!! graemlins/applause.gif graemlins/applause.gif

hummmm...I think we were thrown a bone here. Something to chew on but that is about it. Not exactly what we're looking for but it is a start.

Special thanks to Skein and Hogmaster! Good job Kids. Thanks to everyone else that sent their e-mails and posted. I am sure it was more than just 12 of us. :hoboy:

Jen gives lessons? Cool...

We'll address the economic issue in more ways than one...starting, I think, before the end of the year, too...

Way to go guys!!!

That was one of the most beneficial threads I have ever seen on IFISH.

I never did get a response but I have to believe they heard what everyone had to say.
