We fished the same area and did not do as well. We move up river a bit. Above the mouth of Lake river. Caught one at 54 1/2 and one that we could not move off bottom before he got off. and about 15 shakers.
Roll mop and shrimp. 50 feet of water.
How did the rest of you do???

Fished Kelly Point, 23 shakers to the boat only mesured one, 39 1/2. Anyone else notice how many real small fish there were today? I bet we caught 10 shakers under 20 inchs.

Koidakfisher finally got the skunk off his back and caught a sturgeon. graemlins/applause.gif His first sturgeon was all of 12 inch's. But he did catch it on the tiger stick he caught out of the river last year.

Sorry Doug I had to tell the story.

What was the current flow like in the Kelly Point area?
I wanted to get out there yesterday but it looked like the tides might have been pushing you back up stream for most of the morning.
The wife and I will be out in that area Tues. good tides or not!

SMJ. We didn't have any problems at all. Even on the early in coming tide we stayed headed down stream. Started out with 4 oz and ended with 8 oz.

We hooked fish on Smelt and squid. Didn't seem to matter which one.

just my 2 cents
Good luck Tuesday

Fished up at the fishery caught a few shakers, a 48, 56, and 2 oversize. Broke my Tiger stick on the last big one. It was strange there were no fish checkers at the ramp at 1:00 you think they would be checking hard the first day.

fished up by Rooster Rock on 11/23 and got one keeper for a couple hours of fishing. fished 60 ft with smelt, shrimp, and nightcrawlers. lots of shakers. smelt sounds like the go to bait for everybody.

one question when you guys use squid, is it the fresh stuff or is it pickled?

Fishnxt, you were obviously in a better spot than we were! :hoboy: We're just learning where to fish on the Columbia so maybe we will find a better spot next time!!!

Fishingwithbadbaitfirst, you call yourself a sturgeon fisher. :hoboy: Any real sturgeon fisher gets their smelt when the run is on and has 50+ pounds in the freezer. You got major problems if you aint got no good bait. And after all that smack talk. Scott you better get with the program.

fishingfirst - Smelt is readily available- just invite somebody to go with you who was smart enough to put up a bunch last year! Other than that - good luck :depressed:

Mel,

I figured that was coming, I did save two for the 7th, one for my keeper, and one for the oversize!

I should have looked a little higher, didn't see your post Waterdoggie. Don't worry about me, I have my secret bait for the 7th, I was just trying to be a kind team captain and have enough choices for the rookies in the boat! But seriously I did buy my last batch from Roth's here in town, but that was at the end of the run, still looking for more, have not netted my own, will have to try that sometime.

Fished KP & Frenchman's on 11/24 moved 4 times, never had a decent bite. It was amazing. Didn't see may others setting hooks, one 8-10 year old girl caught a keeper between the 2 tankers. Fished smelt/sand shrimp with smelly (tried 4-flavors) and Marie's shrimp oil. Nothin' doin..... Great day on the river, had the TV goin, Raider's stomped the Cards.

I fished above and below Raineer. 0700 till 1700. Anchored 5 or 6 times. 16 shakers with two measured at 39" and 41". I crackered a nice peeler due to my inability to get a good hookset with this darn tendonistis. Smelt, roll mop, pickled squid and combinations there of. Everything we put on the bottom got bit.
We met up with a bunch of good people from the Gamefishin.com website. 6 boats total - and sad to say we were the hot boat. I've seen slow days but this was one that will stand out. My buddy Barnyard, must of had his tuffest sturg day ever. Only spoke with one boat with a keeper.
It was a great day on the river though. Civil War, Apple bowl, good friends, and no need for the heater!
