Cleaned up real nice. We are asking $3,000.00. All goes to Whiskey Creek Volunteer Hatchery. Maybe we could do a raffle. What does anybody think. You tell me where to send the money and I'll send money.

My question is, if they did sell 1000 $10 tickets then how far would $10,000 go?

Where is Jerry?
For sure, I would support this, and any other good ideas for raising money for the hatcheries, but I do think we have to all get together on these ideas!
Everyone keeps coming up with great ideas. Are we going to implement them? Shouldn't we all be on the same page?
We need to know where this is going, and I'm confused.
Jen

Wiz I'm in. Just post the details of where to get the tickets. I have to agree with Jen that all the organizations would go further if they united for these fundraisers. I'm curious to about how the funds are to be spent.

Hey folks if we could sell 1000 tickets at $10.00 each, we would split it between the Wilson and the Nestuca Brood stock program. Let me know what you think. Jerry

Go for it. But we need to get organized. Like a where, when, how, to buy tickets and the same for the raffle. Remember that if you are going to have a raffle, it is a must to check with the state and get a permit. A group that I am a member of did not one year and we got stung pretty hard ($2500). The permits are not much, that is around $200 or so but your potential is around $10,000. Great idea, good luck. Do I see another Rendezvous forming? Feel free to e-mail me.

Jerry<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">I'm still confused. Who is selling tickets? Where are they available? And where does the money go if less than 1000 tickets are sold? If the money goes to the hatcheries, will it be restricted to a particular purpose ... broodstock perhaps? ... and what's to say ODFW wouldn't just include that as part of the regular funding and reduce state funding by an equivalent amount?

This sounds like a good thing. Can't lose unless they sell less than 300 tickets ($3,000 = value of Ranger). I'd be in but as stated, this needs carefull set up/coordination. graemlins/1zhelp.gif
If somebody get's there stuff together, the xmas get together on the 4th would be a great place to sell a bunch of tickets! It's not very far off though.

What's the yearly operating budget on these hatcheries? Will a few thou make a difference?

There. I asked the same question from a different angle.

The money will be used to support Whisky Creek Hatchery and kids fishing day. If you don't know what I am talking about, SHAME ON YOU. You need to know about this organization. The hatchery is totally funded by donations and volenters and a very worthwhile cause. (Springers, Broodstock & dreams and memories for handicapped kids) I'm in for $50.00 worth of tickets and am willing to send my check in advance to help fund the application fee if that helps.

I was a little confused about the sort of lack of coordination of information, but I did click on the "Keep our Hatcheries open" on the top of the home page here, and there was some helpful information. Now you guys, remember we are all on the same team, so direct your energy to the enhancement of the fishery and not at each other. Lets see if we can make something good happen here.

What's confusing is that Madwizard says the money goes to Whiskey Creek, but Jerry Dove, who represents Whiskey Creek, says it goes to the Wilson and Nestucca Broodstock programs. Certainly Whiskey Creek is a great program and I have volunteered there and will do so again. I'm just asking for some clarity about where a donation is going!

Hey FG, Point well taken. I'll choose my words more carefully next time......... It's just that I believe that this is such an excellent program. Thanks for helping me fix my cranial rectal inversion

As this now appears to be going to something other than Whiskey Creek again, I will repost my question.

What would $10,000 do for two hatcheries that have budgets that are likely to be much, much more than that?

If you can show that this will make a measurable difference then I'm all for it. Of course, who the heck am I in the grand scheme of things? I'm just laying out there thoughts that others are likely to be having while they consider taking part in such a venture.

Not a problem, fishbait. I think that we're all in the same leaky boat trying to figure out what we can do to help keep the fish coming into our rivers. The struggle is in finding the thing that will make the biggest impact for the money. Best "Bang for the Buck" so to speak.

If ten grand can do things for those two hatcheries that can't be done with general fund money, then I'm all for it. But if it goes into a virtual "Money Pit" then I don't know...

TFG The broodstock program is largely funded by donations and volunteer help I believe. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. Tim

Shame on me? I hardly think that I should feel shame for not knowing about such an organization. If they're doing a great job, then fantastic. Maybe now would be a good time to provide a web page or something showing exactly what Whiskey Creek Volunteer Fish Hatchery is all about, as opposed to "shaming" people for not knowing.

I hardly doubt that I was the last angler in Oregon who didn't know about Whiskey Creek, let alone everything that they do. And as this is a thread about a raffle benefitting the cause, this would be a good time to do a brief synopsis.

OK. Lets say we get it right with the state of OR. We get tickets printed. We say all funds go to the two Brood Stock progams. We sell 1000 tickets at $10.00 each. OK lets say we sell 1100 tickets, $10.000 to the Brood Stock progams and $1000.00 to Jen for ifish. Now lets quite all the BS, can we sell 1100 tickets for a good cause? If we can We will get tickets and get going next week. Bill M. could you help? Now I need to know now. If not we will sell the truck and give all to Whickey Creek. Maybe a Poll would help. Let me know. I need to know before Wed. next week, am going to have surgery on knee that will lay me up for a while. Bellive me I can sell raffle tickets with a bum knee.
