View Full Version : Spinners and prawn spinners
New to the Columbia fishery. I was wondering what the heck a prawn spinner is? I have fished any number of colored spinners on the coast but have never seen a "prawn spinner"?
Are spinners allowed with treble hooks these days? We used to have to change hooks to singles? Any help or hints before the springers start, would like to try them out this year!

search last year's archive. someone was kind enough to explain it several times and even put up diagrams on how to make it. i was able to make one pretty easily but i only got a chance or two to use it and didn't manage to score with it. i've heard it's pretty deadly though. lots of folks did well with it this year.

wp, the prawn spinners is just a rig with 2 hooks and some beads and a spinner. you can buy the rigs at fishermans or gi joes. they are called erics prawn rig by luhr jensen. there is also a guy here that custom ties them too named "Get Bent tackle". you can make them yourself once you see one. you just need to know how to tie a snell or egg loop. they use them mostly for springers on the columbia or willamette. trolled or plunked they are winners. you will have to check the regs if you can use the trebles or not.

2 ways.....one...you can buy one. They have a metal threader type pin built on with a blade...usually a rainbow.
or...
You can use a double, slider hook mooching rig, with a bead or two and a snap-in clevis for your spinner blade.
