Could you help me? graemlins/1zhelp.gif I will be looking to buy a vacuum packer/food sealer & want to buy JUST ONE! What brand/model is the most reliable and easiest to use?? What about the bags?? I will be using it to seal up cured roe & filet o' fish. Is it best to seal up the eggs in the bags or should I buy one with some sort of attachment to vacuum out the air from my masons?? Please tell me what to look for & avoid.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Great thread...... thanks all!!!

I'm thinkin' you've identified my Xmas suggestion for the family. Mom, Sis, and the nephews could share the costs (all accessories) and I'd be a happy camper!

Foodsaver Pro - you can find some good buys on Ebay if you are willing to wait for a good auction. I use mine all the time. Also, get the attachments for canning jars - works great for eggs. drifter.

I just got a new foodsaver pro and I think I've sucked all the air out of everything in the kitchen! Can't hardly breathe in there anymore it's so airtight!

It's SO much fun to try all the attachments! The neat new wine attachments are handy, and the new vac pac canisters are cool! OOPS! I sucked all the air out of the marshmallows... That is not reccomended!

get it at costco and it comes w/ all the gadgets and canisters..... you can get bulk bags there too.... And yes doing your eggs in the mason jars is a slick deal.... ... its a good way to marinate things too... when the airs removed the poors in the meat open up and the marinade obsorbes a lot faster....

After having a cheaper model first, I'm more than happy with the Food Saver Prof Model 2 we have now. In fact I'd never use or buy anything else unless I was upgrading to a commercial model.

You can't go wrong with this machine, and a little extra cost up front will pay dividends with good quality frozen fish down the road.

No, I'm not a sales rep for these machines. They sell themselves.....

PS - Check E-Bay

I took someones advice from IFISH and purchased a Magic Vac, use your search engine
and you will find several dealers they cost $250.00 but well worth it compared to my old
Foodsaver. They have the vacum pack jars and
a cutter for the bags, very much pleased.

I don't have a Foodsaver, but my girlfriend worked for Costco's purchasing dept. She said she rarely saw one get returned, and they sell a ton of 'em. Returns are a pretty good indicator of a product's reliability, so I'd say it's good unit based on that and the opinions I've seen here!

like WheresMyBobber, I bought a cheap one to begin with. It didn't work well and I hardly used it. I decided I wanted one that would seal jars so I picked up a Foodsaver Pro2 off Ebay. It works great! I would highly reccomend it. If you watch Ebay you can get a good deal on one. I got mine for $170.

We have the Magic Vac and have used it for over 5 years now and it is still going strong. You can't beat the jar sealer for doing your eggs. And like Jennie said, just be careful when you first get it because you want to vacuum pack everything in sight!!!
