I've been cleaning up the shop and trying to find places for everything. I keep finding fishing rods and tackle box's stashed everywhere. This is what I came up with so far.
6 Tackle box's. Everything from Sturgeon to pan fish. Seems likes there all full.
7 sturgeon rods
2 heavy rods for upper Columbia
3 med. for mid river
2 light for lower Astoria area
This doesn't count my salmon rods that I use aswell.
6 Salmon rod of vering weights and length's
2 Steelhead rods
1 Fly rod
16 Trout rods everything from heavy trolling rods to ultra lights.
I found 1 eleven foot noodle rod, I don't even know where it came from.
Understand not every one of these has a real on it but most of them do.
I don't even want to guess how much I have invested in all of this.
Anyone want to take a stab on what you have????

I have:
6 lamiglas boat/bank salmon and steelhead rods.
1 lamiglas trout rod.
2 lamiglas fly rods.
Now for rods that I don't use:
11 tout rods
4 deep sea fishing rods
1 sturgeon rod
5 other salmon rods
2 salmon/steelhead spin rods
Now for a total of fishing rods=32 fishing rods
and only about 70% of them have reels on them.
15 Tackle box's, from small ones up to the big ones.
4 salmon/steelhead nets, one trout net.
and so much other junk that I don't use.
Now lets make a list of stuff that we have lost. ha ya right!

One steelhead jig rod
One salmon bobber rod
Three baitcaster steelhead rod
One trout rod
One fly rod
One plug rod
One sturgeon rod
I find that if I get too many of something I start not taking care of it. my 2 cents.
Let's see. 14 fly rods plus 7spinning rods, another 3 heavy downrigger rods, 6 baitcasters. That's... carry the two...30 fishing rods! Woo-Hoo and I'm not even a fishing guide!
Is there a twelve step program for this? There goes another Thursday night!

Rods - Pretty much can justify each one for each type of fishing and season - well for the most part...
but heres where it gets rediculous....
Kwik Fish - 39 currently in my box or in the boat - Ok now how in the world can a person even begin to justify that??? good thing i have a choc lab and not a wife....

Well I just counted the other night and I only have 3 tackle boxes and 3 fly rods, 4 trout rods 7 steelhead rods and 12 salmon rods and about 8 or 9 extra reels. This does give me an idea. How about an I-Fish combined garage sale. We could all buy each others stuff. Thats what happens in our neighborhood when we get together for a sale.
6 fly rods - 3 steelhead, 3 trout
1 spinning rod
8 casting rods from light steelhead to heavy salmon
1 tuna rod, which doubles for sturgeon

There are two schools of thought on this:
1 - Too many
2 - Not enough
Needless to say my wife subscribes to #1, and you can probably guess which direction I'm leaning.

This is great, I was thinking about posting something similar just the other day, so here goes:
4 Salmon trolling rods (ocean)
3 Salmon trolling rods (smaller for Bouy 10)
3 bobber rods
3 Salmon rods (for throwing spinners)
(see a theme here- there are three of us in my fishing family)
6 Sturgeon rods (three for peelers, three for keepers)
10 trout rods (varied sizes depending on where I am fishing)
2 Mickey Mouse rods (daughter was little once!)
and I have to humbly admit to :
1 pocket fisherman (Christmas present from nonfisherman who thought it was a good idea)
Plus I collect antique fishing gear so I have some rods on the wall that will never touch the water again (probably 10-12, many much older than me)
So grand total: 42! And since I just bought a boat this year of course I have to buy more for the new kind of fishing that I will soon be doing!
I don't even want to try to tally all of the tackle boxes and misc. other items related!
All I know that it has been worth every penny!
What a great sport!
And special thanks to my wife who states that the only reason I married her was because she had her own fishing gear!
(That was only half of the reason!)

Way to many to count. Light ones, heavy ones, long ones, short ones, good ones, cheap ones and a bunch in between.
My wife had a garage sale a couple of weeks ago and I gave her around 30 to sell and she did most of them. Also gave her a couple hundred Kwikfish and some of those sold too.
Now I only have around 30 or so to use. What am I gonna do now? Just can't stand to be out of rods.
Guess I'll have to look to buy some more.
Now, where's that classsified adds page?

Wife is out of town for a few days, so I can fess up, I am now under 40, activally use about half of them.
Had more but this last year I have given away some of the rods that I never use. gave a few to I-fish members and some via word of mouth. And ya know what, giving the rods away probably gave me more pleasure than using them ever did, except for one that had ome senimental value but hopefully is getting used alot more.... SOOOOOO......... and you guys out there with lots of rods, take 1 o 2 that you never use anymore and give it away to someone who will use it....... GURANTEE you will feel great for doing it and if your like me you can use some good karma with the fish gods................ FB

This post got me in trouble with the wife.
I have repeatedly caught h*** for all the rods I have out in the shed. So I quit counting at 42, closed and locked the door to the shed to save the marriage. I guess Ill have to cancel my last order from Cabelas.
Who started this thread anyway, do you realize the trouble this is causing me.

Rebell,
I know what you mean, who started this thread anyhow?!?!
The bass thing has definitly upped the number of rods in possesion, the fly thing has made it un-manageable.
Lets just say, if she knew how many I had, she'd want to cash them out for a bigger house  How's that for a "too many to mention" reply. Let's just say...... Too many to mention to.......HER!
Ok, so I own lots, not as many as some, but more than some third world countries.......That oughta explain it, but not to her......seeing that I don't make as much as some third world's country's GNP  :depressed:
But I love every one of them, and I would hate to part with any one of them. Each one has a special pourpose from oversize sturgeon to flyrod bluegill. Each has a place in my heart.

Over 50 rods and over 60 reels, many of them still unused. Is there a name for this disease? Or is it called a disorder?
I think we should all get together and have a swap meet. I think I can be reasonably happy with just 30 rods and 40 reels.

Thumper, I just followed your advice with my wife. She chased me around the house with an '80s vintage lamiglass 8-12 8'6" LHS baitcaster. So if any of you are thinking of following Thumpers angles(get it angles...fish chatroom...angles..uhhum)you may want to hide all of your '80s vintage rods before starting.
Good Luck in your adventures.
Mark and the dog.
The preceeding is a joke, while you may not find it funny, I do. If you do not find humor in the above, go directly to the sporting goods store and buy 3 fishing poles.

Seefood, you just have to have kids. I have to have at least 3 of anything, because I have to have rods for the kids. Then, one more in case my wife wanted to come along. Then you need enough plugs, etc. for all of those rods. Then you have to plan for what to do if one of the kids wants to bring a friend, then the other kid. Now you need a bigger boat, and more rods. Then, as the kids get older, they have higher expectations about catching, so you need electronics, downriggers, and yet more plugs.
That gives one quite a bit of manuevering room.
This is why my garage looks like the closeout floor at a tackle store.
