Hard time of year for me as I remember all the great fishing trips with Bernie Thibert or BERNIE as most knew him on the coastal streams around Tillamook. Two years ago at this time Bernie died on the upper Wilson pursuing Steelhead with His fly rod. There is a memorial sign for Him and Ed Voget up on ther tree at the Dam hole on the Trask. I f ever fishing there at the dam hole turn around and tip you hat to theses two fine gentlemen. Also at Alice's on Hwy 8 just to the right of the door when you came in is a picture of bernie. This is a rare pic as although Bernie prob hooked over 3000 steelhead in his time He only kept about 10. I watched him have 30 fish days on almost every river on the coast when everyone else was lucky to hook 2. Ted Wade once said Bernie and Ed could catch fish in a mud puddle. Ed always had a story about fishing the wilson in the 20's and of course a name for every hole that most have forgotten or renamed. he always had smoked salmon cheeks in His lunch box of which i was honored to share a few times.
