Ok, it is a little early but after seeing UG picture of that Clack fish I am getting pumped for the winter run. I have respooled all of my steelhead reels, put new hooks on plugs & spoons and tied plenty of leaders up for the pink worms.

Does anyone know what the predictions are for the Wilson, Sandy and Clack for the upcoming winter run of steelhead?

In December there will be fish in those rivers.None of them bite pink worms.

Whiile I would like to be optimistic (I think ALL winter steelheaders are)...its just too early to tell yet. I remember many times hearing rosy forecasts pre-season...only to be dissapointed later. I will wait and see. If I have not tagged any fish by X-mas, that usually means a lean season is ahead.

A few years ago, a biologist friend of mine once told me that the preceding summer-run is usually a good indicator of what to expect for the coming winter run. If this holds true this year.....we could be in good shape!

In the "for what it's worth department", here is an observation from today's scouting visit to the Wilson River.

While parked on the gravel at Mill's Bridge, I watched a young man hook a MINT BRIGHT 7# Winter Steelhead. It was a native and he released it back into the River.

He said it was his second bright Steelhead of the day!!

Folks, that's early for Winter Steelhead but also good news.

Good news Rusty, looks like I can't put the gear in the garage yet either!
