Interesting read about farm raised salmon versus wild. Article implies that keeping them in farm areas impacts their diet in odd ways.
Seems that if they'd just let them go out and play for a year or so like we do that they'd be better...

Tex, that article is on CNN, the politically correct news network. They just scratched the surface by mentioning antibiotics and PCB's. Here's a link to another look, you'll never eat farm raised salmon again!

I know a vet who worked on a projest at WSU studying a particular heart defect that is or was commom in farm raised salmon. Turned out, it was due to a nutritional deficiency, which they can now prevent by adding the lacking nutrient to the farmed fishes' Salmon Chow. I gotta wonder what other nutritional deficiencies occur in farm-raised fish. Just wait till genetically modified salmon hit the scene, it'll get even worse. Most people have no clue just how unsound this industry really is. (and what a large long-term threat it is to native fishes.)

Don't read the article linked in Myles' post if you are eating lunch.
Net pen salmon farming is a huge risk to the environment and native fish stocks. I think I have read that the salmon farmers are already using genetically modified stock which fattens up twice as fast.
Scary!
