...A High Surf Advisory Continues For The Central Oregon Coast...North Oregon Coast And South Washington Coast Beginning Late Thursday...
The first large ocean swells of the fall season will move into the South Washington and the northern and central Oregon coastal waters late Thursday and Friday. Ocean swells may reach 25 to 30 feet by early Friday morning... producing high surf along the beaches. Swells will likely remain near 25 feet and produce high surf conditions through much of the upcoming weekend as a strong low pressure system lingers well offshore.
The high surf threat will be greatest during high tides each afternoon. It can be very dangerous to venture near the coast under high surf conditions. People at times are swept off rocks and jetties and drown while observing high surf. Stay well back from the Waters Edge and be alert for exceptionally high waves.
Debris and logs can be tossed onshore in the surf zone by high surf. This debris can and has repeatedly in the past trapped and caused the drowning of people in the surf zone.
