View Full Version : Big Springers!!

This was a great year for very large springers. I guess I'm suppose to post a "good story" to introduce myself to "ifish". Well, this was a really good spring season for very large fish. The biggest fish that I caught this spring was caught with my friend Rod Cottis in June on the Clackamas River. The fist was wild and was carefully released, but was measured at 51" long and 27" around. Gary Waterhouse at Great American Tackle has a formula that he used to estimate the weight....49.752 lbs. Just 8 days before I had caught a 45.5" x 25.5" wild fish that we put back which Gary estimated to be 38.562 lbs. Wow, these are big fish! I'm so glad to see these big fish in the rivers again. The Clackamas fish have only been clipped for 3 years, so these may have been hatchery fish, but it is still nice to keep them in the gene pool. I guess this is the best "true" fish story that I have lately.

Welcome Terry!!! Glad you finally made it here. As you know you really have to watch o'l Fishin Eddie (Rodney Cottis). He's a sly one and a big trickster. You might also want to take note of Hogmaster (Gary). Lots of talk and a broken net. (not from a fish).

Look forward to hearing stories from you this winter and spring.

Bernie

Hi Fishrite how are things going it been a long time, my mistake it was only yesterday I talked to you on the ph  . I wish I could have been with you when you landed one of the big nooks this year. I was fishing with Rod aka Fishing Eddie and we sure did not have much to show from our trips. Hey Fishalot:
You know how it is when you fish with Fishless
Eddie.....its hard to get rid of the baton. graemlins/applause.gif I need to get some more of those good eggs. The run of the Sandy was late, and my wife had surgery so I couldn't get out :depressed: This should make for an interesting spring salmon season...I just might get the baton this year  I think that the baton has red and yellow flames on it already (if you know what I mean
Tight lines to you brother, Fishrite

Please Mr. Fishrite who's boat was it that you caught that big pig in? sorry can't hear you, still can't hear you. That's right it is what you are calling flame out fishless eddie what ever!
FishsalotwithNOT his first trip in my boat, boo-yaa, that's right you all soon forget. Dylan and after knocking one of my customers fish off the gall of these people. Oh fish rite was it not you that we put one of only 2 keepers on your tag in my boat, uhm?
Springer season is only a couple months away we then will see who's caring the baton.
Stay tuned next spring to see who will be the next baton carrier, Fishalot, FM2, Texas Rig, Mo Fish, C&E, Fishing mission, sorry Mark, BOE, Tilla, graemlins/icon_argue.gif

Good morning, "Fishless Betty"....oops I mean "Fishin' Eddie". So you are already start-
ing to throw some slack line around about next springer season, huh? graemlins/icon_argue.gif Well, you just wait, ya know that old flat boat sled that has those two old Merc engines?...well that will be the boat that is on fire  And that new flame machine will be following me everywhere begging for more of those "good eggs". You have a good day brother. Go fishin' for men, you catch 'em and God will clean 'em. TW

CATCH AND EAT
11-08-2002, 07:52 AM
It's easy to catch fish in Fishin Eddies boat. Usually it is because he is not catchin anything but a cold. Heck, I even caught one in his boat this year. Was'nt even that tough. Mofish and I put on a clinic up at Bonniville while Fishless continued to hook the same dang sturgeon twice and continued to waste valuable bite time> :hoboy:

Ahhh....the tales of the coming springer season are about to start. Who will be the first to put a springer in the boat. (excluding Fishin Mission he has way to much time on his hands  ) . lllllll We know it won't be FM2 or Fishalot. Swishin Eddies is no threat. Texas Rig? Enough said  BOE? Never mind. Tilla? Never seen the boy in action. Nawh...Fish Rite is the real threat here. The man catches fish!

Rod, hope you start feeling better too. This stuff is terrible. I'm better today so it looks like I am fishing up north tomorrow.

Man I tell you a guy makes no posts for a long time and then he gets on the board and graemlins/icon_argue.gif  :hoboy: . Some people have a lot to say about nothing, have all of you seen the lower jaw development on this boy it looks like the kipe on an old Silver. I give up I can't compete with him and I'm not talking about fishing so don't go there. Rod can you pleaseeee write somthing that is worth reading?

FM2 is most note worthy of the baton next, I'm not sure how he never had it during all of the springer season without one fish on his tag. hold up there big fella I know you knock them dead out on the big blue whoopee
Fishalot This year I'll show when and when not to set the hook that was wrong of me to let you flounder like that last year I'm sorry :hoboy:
Texas Rig I hopr you can tell the differance of a crappie and springer  Remember the springers are the big ins

Hey Fishin' Eddie its time we wet a line together sowhere. What do you think about going to the coast? The chum season closes on Wednesday the 15th. I would really like to get the fly rod out and put a spankin' on you graemlins/idea.gif , what do you say? I owe you one cause you put a spankin' on me on our favorite little creek last year.....remember? I think that creek has a hole that we affectionately named after you cause you just lit it up. I'm sure you remember  Anyway, I think that we need to get out so that I can start puttin a spankin' on you just so you get used to it for next springer season

Uhh Huhhh!! The slime is flying already   Fishrite don't worry about the flame boat, it's all show and no go  but the guy running the boat is ok, just have to be ready for his barrage of pranks that busts a gut with everyone

And that fishalot dude, well I think he left his lunch in the last tree he trimmed and won't let that memory go  and combine that with the extreme weight of the baton it's a wonder he can remain rational graemlins/eek13.gif Oh and the C&E dude, well lets see where to start...hummm.....if he shows up with his snoopy pole you know he took it from his kids because he is desperate to catch at least a pogey, he's pretty good at that and I heard they stocked the crackermas river with them just for him graemlins/hearton.gif

I do need to tell you all that Fishrite can put a mean hook set on a fish. I got to see him in action this year, I can't remember for sure if the Springers lower jaw or it's head came in when he reeled in  . He is good at netting flying smoked Salmon also.
I think Fishing in a Eddy was there also and did not touch his rod the whole time.

Hey Fishalot:
Is your name holding true? Are you fishin' alot? The last time I checked old "fishin' eddie" was "fishless eddie".  I do have to admit that he guided me to a pretty big fish this last spring.....49lbs!! That was a dandy! Can't believe that I caught that fish in his boat. Did you hear about the day that I caught
3 springers up there in his boat( by myself), and they were all wild? Hope for some days like that again this spring...huh?  , <)))>< fishrite

Well finally Fishrite welcome aboard with the rest of us fishless fishermen. I hope The Ol flat bottom hope you start boat is working next spring cause it is a catching machine. If we could just figure out how to get the one's without the little fin. As for Fishing Eddie's remark those crappie that me and Fishrite caught during the springer season are still being eatin with lots in the freezer. and they are better eatin than the springers. And now lets see who did I pass the baton to after I caught my springer out of Fishrites boat? I THINK EVERYONE KNOWS IT WAS FISHALOT and he had alot of time to be able to pass it to FM2 but I guess thats why he chose the name Fishalot because he did that and still know springers. So the baton is still in his hands my guess would be around May if he's lucky. And Bernie I can't believe you put me in the same catagory as FM2, fishalot & Fishing Eddie. graemlins/stupid.gif Bernie I get the honor to do alot of my springer fishing with Fishrite which produces fish sooner than later. He's got some good eggs and knows how to put us into some fish. Well Terry I hope your ready to put up with alot of BULL. Also with all these good words about you the pressure on ya brother. PS: Terry I hope you are ready for a BIG BIG STEAK from the cowboy dinner tree. Fishing Eddie and I know you won't eat half of it.

Hey Texas Rig:
How in the world are you? I have been waiting for you to help me talk some trash to these boys. I have lots of crappie left to, and these guys can only dream about them. We are going to have to do that trip again, and this time we will be taking Fishin' Eddie along. I wonder with the millions of crappie in the pond if "Fishless Betty" will be able to catch one? Well, fishalot, FM2, and CatchandEat all know what a good fisherman that Fishin' Eddie is right? We need to get a bundle of batons! And Billy, I can't wait to eat at the Cowboy Dinner Tree with you and Rod. And all kidding aside, I can't wait to spend some quality time with you 2 on the
Willamette again ....I really look forward to it every season.. God bless, us with many of these next spring....<)))><  Terry

I can not believe it Texas Rig shows his face  . I don't blame you for hiding out after after handing that baton to me :hoboy: . I did not have room in the freezer for another Springer so I had to catch 3 or was it 4 Steelhead to put in there. Tilla can back me up on that fact. It would be nice to see you again so plan on the Sturgeon trip.
