With all of the steelhead over the dams this year I would think the John Day River should be good by now.
Has anybody fished it yet this year? and what have been the results??

This is what Nickle (5 cents) wrote a couple of days ago...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Was up that way last week and things were pretty slow. I subscribe to The Guides Forecast and the report from the guide that fishes that area said the same thing, slow and the water is real low.
I saw some guys fishing prawns at the mouth on the way back in but I dont know if they caught anything. There was a post that the fishing was good at the mouth of the Deschutes under the "tip" thread that is going right now.
If you go good luck and take some warm clothes it was COLD!

What Hogmaster said!
The water is really low, or so I was told it was the first time I was up there. We motored as far as a boat could go and it did not look like there was much water coming down the canyon. There were bass jumping everywhere though.
Good luck if you go and post some results for goodness sake!
Sounds like they are killing them up where Fear No Fish is fishing and I also heard the mouth of the Deschutes is fishing good with little pressure. I might try the big D this weekend.

Just to let you know, it was 9 degrees this morning in Bend when I came to work and had heated all the way up to 26 at noon! Down in that canyon, it won't be a whole lot different. So, if you go, think like a Boy Scout and be prepared (to freeze your *ss off, that is!).
