Hey folks, I'd like to get into my first chum and would like some tips on where to go. I'd prefer not to combat fish but will try anything the first time. Don't know my way around the sound area so some directions might be of help too. Thanks.

If you want to get away from crowds and catch nice chum then go to the Salmon River out of Stewart, Alaska.

This fish was caught close to there and was the IGFA 12lb world record for several years.

British Columbia. Fish the Stave, the Squamish,or the Harrison. There are tons of Chums and they are a blast.

There are some good Chum rivers in the lower Hood Canal area. I'll get shot if I tell you exactly where but places that rhyme with Hoodsport, Nisqually, and Chambers Creek.

Hot pink or Chartreuse flies, or jigs work really well.

The curent 12lb record fish came out of the Skena River in BC. 3-1/2 pounds heavier than mine.

The chum runs in the Kilchis and Miami Rivers should be avoided because they are fragile. There are healthy runs in Puget Sound and Hood Canal streams. I will give a report if I manage to get up there on the 10th, as planned.

The mouth of the Harrison River in B.C. there are so many Chums going up the Fraser right now. Just fished there this past weekend, almost a fish on every cast.
