Hi I've been a lurker for a long time. I am addicted to this web site. My manditory fishing jack is when my buddy J-low had a fish jump into his boat while fishing tidewater on the Rogue. Get this... He kept the fish. My question for the ifish tigafs is can you keep it in that situation.

Welcome aboard, J-ice. In the strictest sense, I don't think keeping the fish was legal. Have fun on the site!

Why not? He didn't snag it, or take it by any other illegal means?

Because he didn't take it by any legal means. Take a look at the regulations. Under "harvest methods" listed for salmon, sturgeon and steelhead it lists "angling only". "Angling" is defined as "taking or attempting to take fish for personal use using hook and line".
Positioning your boat under a falling salmon is not "angling".

Would it be legal for me to stand at the foot of a waterfall with a bucket on a stick and catch fish as they jump in the air trying to swim upriver? I don't think so. But it wouldn't be snagging either.
Don't make the fish gods angry by refusing their gift.

Hmmm.... I'd be more concerned about making the Game Warden gods angry by accepting the gift. :hoboy:

Welcome. I this that it would be legal if you were angling by legal methods, and the fish may have followed the bait to the boat and jump in after it  Or mabey the fish knew that the bait was in the boat.
