Good reminder! I usualy vote according to obvious party agendas. But for the first time in a long time I may becoming something I don't respect. That would be an apathetic voter that hasn't kept up on the issues well enough. Since you are into promoting voting for pro rec fishing agendas, which I would guess most of us here lean toward, who do you recommend for us to vote for? Smith or Bradbury? Ringo or Witt? Kulongoski or Mannix? Other races?Who is going to do the most good for our recreational fishing opportunities? Without too much "pain"? How do you know who to vote for? How can any of us trust how to vote? The only valid way I can think of is to review how candidates have voted within the legislature and other matters first. And a distant secondary consideration of how they have represented themselves in public statements. Yea, it really means a lot what candidates tell us right before an election, right? So what can you tell us about the other than to just "go vote"? Who should us fishermen vote for?

You bet!!! While we all have different people and issues that we would prefer people vote on.....the most important thing is to "Just Do It".
And, since this is a general election, you can't just "not vote" and make a difference   ....Double Majority doesn't count in this one (Hallelujah!!)
Once again, I think we're presented with one of those "who'll be the least worst choice" elections, like we were stuck with during the presidential election. Mannix will most likely be pro-hatchery, but also most likely be for rolling back some of the watershed protections that have been put into place the last 8 years. Kulongoski will toe the party line on the environment, but will he support spending state $$ on hatcheries??
It's a tough one, that's for sure! I'm only for sure on 2 issues...the tax hike and the ridiculous new product labeling law. The others I have to sit down and look at.

Nope! I'm not about to give any recomendations to anyone on this thread or any other thread as far as how to vote. It usually turns into a big fight and the mods or Jennie have to step in. You got your voters pamphlet and there is plenty of ways to research the issues and candidates. Vote your conscience!

With the voters pamphlet, web sites, candidate forums and news coverage, there is no reason not to be an educated voter rather than simply a voter.
Try to look at the big picture and try to think about past actions and words of candidates, not only what they are telling you today.
Most importantly, think, then vote!

Just my thoughts. Gordon Smith has done a lot for Tillamook County. Helped get $ to solve some of the dairy run off. Which will help fish.

Just my thoughts. Gordon Smith has done a lot for Tillamook County. Helped get $ to solve some of the dairy run off. Which will help fish. Mannix has told me to my face he will not let hatcheries close, and do every thing he can to enhance fish and fishing in Oregon. Kulonqoski has said nothing, I have not seen or heard him. Local, Tilla. State Rep. Elaine Hopson, told me last January that the hatchery thing was a done deal, They Are Closing, .When I asked her if she would fight to save them she said NO! So much for her. I am voting for Joe Meyer for State Rep. He will fight for what we want, not just what the Gov. wants. PS if Kulonqoski should win, God Forbid, we would have another four years of J. Kitz. PS-PS Want to meet Gordon Smith and Joe Meyer? Nov. 1st. Friday, 7AM at the Fern Cafe in Tillamook. Jerry
Why is it that I have to hold my nose every time I vote. It seems that we have to vote for the ones that we feel will do us the least harm.

If you enjoy your fishing, not having too bad of traffic, and current income vote no on measure 23.

I don't know what Mannix 'says' but his Legislative record speaks for itself - consistantly voting against conservation measures, sensible landuse laws, etc. Without healthy rivers, there is no fishing, it's that simple.
No wonder Mannix is endorsed by the Oregon Cattleman's Assoc. and the Oregon Farm Bureau. Both groups view wild spawning fish as a huge obstacle and prefer they'd go away.
Ted Kulongoski is thoughtful and dedicated to Oregon - he deserves our vote.

DON'T VOTE!....................Unless, that is, you have carefully studied the issues and candidate's records and can make INFORMED choices.
Oregon voters have a history of electing officials and of passing measures that superficially sound & look good but turn out to be the opposite graemlins/stupid.gif .
If you can't spare the time or can't muster the interest to become an informed voter, don't bother. Go fishing instead  .

No on 23 and yes to Republicans. Oh boy, I can hear the complaining now.
The important thing like Shane said is to vote!!! This is one Government entitlement that I agree with.

Vote the person, not just the party! graemlins/idea.gif
BTW, I see in todays Oregonian that not only is Mannix going to give everyone everything they wantwithout raising taxes, he is even going to make the Willamette clean enough to drink in something like 4 years!!!
I am going to ask him for the moon, I know he will deliver!

just figured that I would copy garyK's message - read that one again:
