No way a QB should pass for 500+ yards against the Ducks.

I can hear it already.....

Yeah, I guess that'll FINALLY give the beaver fans at least something to smile about eh? So much for being #6. They choked BIG TIME. How do you give up a 21 point lead like that, in your own stadium no less. Yikes.

DUCK OFF. I'm not a team sport fan, by any stretch of the most vivid emagination, but I've been following duck football out of a pervers sense of wanting to see them fail. I grew up beleiving that a university should be an institution of higher education. After watching 90,000,000 dollars go into the renovation of Autzen stadium, while OR is the number one hungriest state in the union, I find it very gratifying to see the ducks fall.

I am so bummed out about my alma mater's horrendous performance that I actually went out and mowed the lawn. No big deal you say!

Well, I hate gardening, I hate losing, and I DETEST mowing my lawn. Now my lousy day is complete. (Unless my wife tells me tonight to paint the house on Sunday!!)

At least it looked to be a close, exciting game.

I can't even say that about my Huskies. :depressed: Choke O Rama!

I've settled to be happy with just a winning record. Bowl game? Yeah, right. Maybe the Toilet Bowl.

Oh well, just you all wait until next year!

I think I'm done being a Huskie fan until they can Neuheisel. Unfortunately, I just heard that his contract has been extended until 2008. Come on, isn't it time for Don "The Dog Father" James to stop doing Poulsbo RV ads and go back to coaching? Oh well. At least I'm living in Boise now and have a pretty good team to root for here in the mean time. Anyone watch the spanking they put on Fresno State last night. (67-21 if you missed it!!)

I've heard some perverse reasons for wanting Ducks to lose and everybody loses eventually, right Huskies? Feed hungry people? Lets. plug all the holes in Autzen Stadium, fill it with water and stock it with fish to feed the masses. That will generate the bucks.
OU still has one heck of a program and PAC 10 is one tough conference, It ain't over yet!! No body is going undefeated this year!

If you remember last year the Ducks had a tough loss at home to Stanford and still came out 11-1 with a win in the Fiesta Bowl. They can turn it around next week against USC and be back in the hunt.

It's no secret- you can't run against the Ducks but you can pass all you want.....and everybody's doin' it. Their secondary is getting hammered all day long, and there's nothing they can do about it. :depressed: graemlins/berry.gif The difference between a good team and a great team is that great teams don't blow big leads at home against conference also-rans. People were starting to utter those hallowed words- "National Title". Ain't gonna happen, at least not this year. Never thought it would anyway  Oh well...I've been a Duck fan since the 70's (horrible, horrible memories) so I guess I'll take a 1 or 2 loss season and be happy. Their best chance was last year and then along came Stanford.......so maybe ASU was the spoiler this year?

Hey Sandy, I'm not disin the football program. I would, however like to see academics, and the disparity between the "haves, and the havenots", be dealt with before 90,000,000 dollars goes to "super sizing" Autzen Stadium. I am aware that most of that money came from donations, but I truly believe that money could have been better spent

First and foremost, I am not a Pac 10 fan. Growing up in SEC country, I didn't even know Oregon existed until they got spanked by Penn State in a major Bowl game. The only teams you would ever hear about from the Pac 10 down South was Washington, USC, and maybe UCLA.

I have gained a little respect for Oregon State the seven years I have lived here but that's about it. If you think the Ducks choked on this game, wait until they play USC, Washington State, and OSU. They are lucky they don't play Cal. I predict the ducks to have 4 Pac 10 losses by season end.

Just my two cents worth..... Roll Tide Roll

Just like the Fiesta Bowl last year and Texas the year prior. Colorado was gonna run all over em.... Ya right. Long way to go yet. You are right about Cal though, they have another former Oregon Offensive coordinator for a head coach. The beavs better look out or otherwise they are headed for the Toilet Bowl---AGAIN.... As an avid Duck fan, I am of course very disapointed. Our secondary is young and learning and improving. I guess that we Duck fans can take solace in the fact that it is our first loss in ONE year and it took an all time pac-10 record passing day to beat us by three points.

I guess I'm still venting about Bama's loss to Georgia. We need to share a slice of river one of these days and talk pig skin. Tell ya what, I bet a fishing trip that your Ducks will lose 2 of the last three Pac 10 games. How bout it

Ripple,
I would leave the part out about an all time passing record against your defense if it was me. I could see an offense chewing up that many arial yards if the team was Florida playing say Nevada Eastern Tech, but a Sun Devil attack :hoboy:

Yep! They choked in fullness. So ... they're not as good as I was hoping. Still, they're plenty good. Is the Pac-10 a great conference or what? I think any team could possibly beat any other team on a given day. Too bad it was ASU's "given day."

I'm kind of glad it wasn't on TV, the pain was great enough via radio.

GO DUCKS

Otolith

Where do you guys get this funny logic -- that parity in the conference means that the conference is good?

Parity does not imply greatness. Maybe all the PAC10 teams are equally mediocre? Maybe they all equally suck? All we know for sure is that they are pretty equal, and the team that just beat Oregon lost at home to an ACC doormat a few weeks earlier.

Funny, the Ducks choke one time and the beav fans who haven't had a thing to brag about in how many weeks - 3, count em.....3 STRAIGHT chokes, and they come out of the woodwork to talk about another team cause they can't say much about their own! Beav fans can only find something to feel good about after weeks of losses by taking jabs at the Ducks only loss! Pretty dang funny! Well Beavs, let's see where they all are at seasons end. The Ducks have a ways to go to catch the beavs in losses. Yep, the Ducks choked bigtime this weekend, no doubt about it. Doubt they'll do that again.

Duck fans had three straight weeks to take their jabs at the Beavs, did they? Nope, maybe one or two, (those were probably me!) I'd keep kinda quiet there beavs, you don't know yet who's going to get the last laugh! Come on Civil War! Go Ducks

Otolith,

We like to look at conferences like this. ANY team in the Pac-10 can beat you on any given day, because even our bottom-feeders aren't that bad. In the SEC, ACC, and Big Least, you have teams like Duke, Temple, Vanderbuilt, Wake Forest and Rutgers. We don't have the luxury in this conference of having patsies comprise the bulk of our schedule.

I looked at the top teams in the ACC, SEC, and Big East. Miami, Virginia Tech, FSU, Georgia and Florida are the big names. UW has been able to hold their own against the teams on that list we've played..........and UW is currently in the bottom half of the conference. That would NEVER happen to UM or FSU because the bottom half of their conference is SO BAD.

Hey......you say tomayto, I say tomahto. I still love college football though.

Otolith
10-21-2002, 06:45 PM
I definitely agree that the bottom of the PAC10 is better than the bottom of every other conference, but I don't think the top of the PAC10 can necessarily hang with the tops of the others. Like I said, PAC10 teams are all close enough to each other to all be beatable by each other, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are all great teams. They're just spaced closer around the average.

I think most would agree that WSU is the best in the West right now, but which of the other BCS conference elites do you think they could beat? Not Miami or VaTech in the BigEast, maybe FSU on a neutral field but probably not NC-State, they already lost to Michigan and probably couldn't take OSU or Penn State. Oklahoma? nope. Texas, maybe.

When Washington has been able to hang with the big boys (not this year), they were pretty ******** good, and weren't losing to weaker conference sisters.

I'd say that the PAC10 is a more exciting conference to watch, because more of the games are going to be better contests. But that only matters to a spectator watching two teams play that he doesn't care about. Wouldn't you rather your Husky's won by 8 touchdowns every week instead of close calls?

I personally don't care what anyone says about the Big East. I'm a Miami fan, all I care about is how good Miami is. Screw everyone else, in our conference and out.

Hogmaster, Kruechief - Nice to see that some beav fans have a defense as well as an offense! But, I don't remember singling anyone out....Hog, seems I got a bit of a flinch out of you too!   Truth is, I didn't go to either of the Oregon schools so apart from calling myself a Duck fan, I do root for the beavs too. I was mostly just stirring the pot and havin' some fun wit ya'll! I like college ball though much better than pro ball.

My biggest wish for the season though (besides a 40+ nook) is that NO team from Florida be standing at seasons end. Aren't you all just a tad bit sick of seeing teams from Florida get so much attention from the biased East coast coaches and writers? Well, it's nice to see at least one of the FL teams already p.u.k.e. on their shoes......Rex who?

Otilith, I doubt the Ducks would take Miami down this year, but given the chance they really deserved at them last year, I don't think for one second they could have beaten the Ducks in January. It will take a team better than the Ducks this year, but mark my words......Miami will fall by years end . Go Hokies!

OK, so much for stirring the pot some more....time to step back and re-adjust those flame retardant waders! Besides.....I'm going fishing in the morning, Yeehaw!

Skrimmy - you must have eaten some of those Tilly mushrooms while you were fishing at the Hospital hole, because you are trippin' dude. Even the biased homer Duck fans like Neutron concede that Miami would have torn the ducks 4 new a$$holes if Oregon had the misfortune of going to the Rose Bowl last year. Getting shut out of the BCS game was the best thing that could have happened to the quackers. Saved them some embarassment. Now last years Ducks might give this years Hurricanes a a run for their money, but we won't be seeing that game.

I'm not really anti-duck or beaver, but I am getting annoyed by the incessant whining that comes out of some fans and sports media (READ: Colin Cowherd) in this town. East Coast bias my a$$. Did the East Coast bias smoke the Ducks secondary for 500 yards? Besides the one they lost AT HOME last year, home many close calls did the ducks have against BAD teams? (I can think of the Beavers and Badgers off the top of my head).

Championship teams win all of their games, and blow out pansies like Arizona State. Let me know when Oregon gets there. And I hope Miami keeps rolling so I can keep talking smack

Otolith-

If the Ducks would've made it to the Rose Bowl last year, they probably would've lost, but they would've put up a lot better fight than the Cornh***rs...oops, I mean Huskers
I seem to remember UO mopping up the field with a highly regarded team from Boulder, CO who just happened to kick the snot out of a another highly regarded (overrated) team from Lincoln, NE who promptly went to the Rose Bowl and laid down and peed all over themselves when they found out they were facing Miami on the other end of the field. Colorado was the one doing all the whining last year about getting stiffed by the BCS. After the Fiesta Bowl, all that complaining kinda had a hollow ring to it  It wasn't 'til then that Oregon's bandwagon got fired up. Kinda funny that everybody forgot about the big Nebraska-Colorado-Rose Bowl controversy as of Jan. 3rd or so.......by the way, where are they now? Are they still in Division I??

You guys are right - Oregon did deserve to be the team to LOSE to Miami in the Rose Bowl last year. Aren't you glad they weren't? I mean, Miam led Nebraska 34-0 at the half, then sat on it. Sure the Ducks would have given a better game, but they still wouldn't have come close. I'd say that an impressive bowl win over Colorado did more for the Ducks program than taking a one in a million shot against Miami last year would have. And be sure that NOBODY except for a few duck homers actually believes Oregon could have taken Miami last year.

And I got your facts right here Newt: PAC10 teams are currently 7 and 9 against teams from the other major conferences, and only 2 of those wins were against teams with winning records. USC's wins against Auburn and Colorado were certainly impressive, but everyone else's wins against Miss.St., Mich.St., Baylor, Temple, and OklahomaSt. weren't.

And let me get this straight: Wazzou's loss to Ohio State doesn't count because the Buckeye's had a good running back and the game had to go the full 4 quarters????

If you guys define "East Coast Bias" as "two teams lining up, and the team from the east coast beating the team from west coast fair and square", then I am on board. Damn that East Coast Bias!!!

But the only reason any fan should care if other teams in their conference are good is so that your wins over them look impressive. They key part of that being "your wins over them".

Hey, I'll wear the Oregon hat, but I'll pass on the Green and Yellow glasses
