I was at Nestucca sporting goods last wednesday and the owner of the store was bragging about taking a 70 or 80 year old womans fish. The poor old lady said where are you going with my fish and said that you just donated it. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? I would like to see them try that with me! graemlins/icon_argue.gif We stopped at the boat ramp and they had these fish tubes down there just waiting for someone elses fish. They want to donate, catch their own. They should not steal fish from old ladies or other people.
just my thoughts:

I'm glad that I'm not the only one scratching my head on this one.

No, nobody else is scratching my head so technically I'm the only one scratching my head.

I'm going back to bed.

I guess that they are taking these fish up to the hatchery to spawn or to that pond that they talk about all the time in that store. The tubes are aluminum transport tubes. they have them there on the boat ramp, go down there and you will see them. I dont know where they get off just taking peoples fish!

Ron is at it again, huh? SHEESH, RON!

I've been by there and have seen it happen, over and over.

Dozens of elderly women, crying in front of his store, screaming, "Give me back my fish!!!"

Ron likes to steal fish from everyone, but finds it especially fun to do to elderly women.

When will he stop this practice of stealing fish from the elderly?

Actually, folks, this is just a joke. I think we are all confused at what silver is trying to say here.
I'm going to call him to find out!

Ron, SHEESH!

OK, here is The Rest Of The Story...
Ron got a kick out of this one.

The are collecting adult chinooks for spawning for Rhoades pond. They hold them in the tubes to ripen until they are ready.
This is in cooperation with ODFW, since they have no rain this year.
Bea, a well known fisher lady around there, fished that day, and donated one of the fish that she hooked.
They were joking about it, and someone obviously overheard, and misunderstood the story.
They will be doing this again, next Tuesday.
If you are interested in helping out, you must obtain and fill out a form at Nestucca Valley Sporting Goods.
To talk to Ron, and for more information, please call 503 392 4269.
Sounds like fun! I can't wait! If I go participate, I'm going to hand it over, and then start screaming, "THIEF!! THIEF! They took my fish!"

I don't mean to make fun of you at all, Silver, and I'm sure you meant well by protecting this lady. It just hit me funny, as I know Ron to be a very good guy, and I just couldn't picture him stealing a fish from a nice lady! It was, however, all in fun, and for a good cause.
Thank God for people who help with these projects!
--and actually, Thank God for you too, Silver, for attempting to protect this lady!

just want to put in a note here, I was with the guy who posted this thread when they were braging about this. They flat out were laughing about it as they made the statment that they neted this 70 year old womans fish and just kept walking with it, and she says "where are you going thats my fish" they told her "you just donated it to the cause" this was when I asked what are you talking about, and they said they were out taking hens for some fish broodstock thing. I can tell you from the attitude these guys had in the. store that I won't go back. They were very unsportsmanlike, they are rude to there customers, and I left that store thinking they might try and steal a fish from me someday "like to see them try". As it was their words and they were loudly braging it up that they had just stolen a fish from a 70 year old woman. I think they should mabey use more respect when talking about these fish they take from people "if they are infact giveing them freely". The impression they left with me will forever have a big dent in it. I used to stop in that store for gear and sodas, but I will no longer, I can go without the gear and get my sodas next door.

This is just my point of veiw on this, take it as you wish, but I and my friend were both quite put out with the attitude they displayed on this. When I asked what they were talking about they did not try to clear it up as a joke, they only said they were colecting fish for a broodstock pond. They did not seem to concerned about the message they were sending out.

Man, never heard that before!
I've heard NOTHING but good things.
Are you aware of the projects they do?
Heck, sounds like they were in the middle of a joke and you walked in
They do SO much for the fisheries!!!
I'd reconsider if I were you, but I'm not you.

I agree Jen...Ron is a very nice guy and I have never had a problem with him or ever heard anything bad about him. He does a GREAT DEAL of good for that fishery! His shop is also top knotch in my book.

I also know Bea and she is one funny nice lady!! I can just see them joking and carying on about it

I wonder if this Bea is the lady that Mike Schoenwald told me about that fishes at PC...
Is she, do you think, Master Caster?
Fishes over off the bank, mostly?

Sliver & bigfishon,

My God you could not be further from the truth! Bea is friends with the volunteer who collected the fish and was totally happy to help collect a fish for future broodstock.

It was a JOKE!

If you guys had any idea what that volunteer group is about and what they have accomplished you would not try and trash them here, especially when you have the facts all wrong.

If you don't like Rons sense of humor call him or tell him in person. It seems kinda weak to get on here under a fake name and bad mouth people. :hoboy:

Jennie,

I think Bea is the lady you are refering to. She fishes at the PC bridge or the Boat Ramp all the time.

First of all, who in the hell in their right mind is going to let someone walk off with their catch?

Second, I am not really sure that anyone from the general public is involved with spawning fish out.

Third, the tubes really confuse me??????????????????????????????????????????????? graemlins/stupid.gif

Are you talking about the Broodstock Program? I seriously doubt anyone was stealing anyone's fish. Did you talk to the gentlemen from Nestucca Sporting Goods to see what they were doing or why? Seems like it would be helpful to ask a couple questions before drawing the conclusion that someone is stealing fish from old ladies. :hoboy:

Jen,

Im sure its the Bea Im thinking of. She plunks corkies in the pogey hole all the time. Every now and then she will throw a spinner. She catches some really nice fish too and a VERY nice lady. She is one of the people that make that hole worth while even though there are some other less than nice people there.

A little story from last year.....I had just finished going through my reel lubing it up and stuff cause the fishing was DEAD. I went down the the first set of stairs to make a few casts to straighten out my line and Bea was sitting just up from the stairs. On my 3rd cast I hooked a fish. She looked at me with a HUGE smile. I started fighting this fish and saw somwthing bunching around the end of my rod, going in and out as I fought the fish. I finally realised what it was and it was MY LINE!!! It was freying on the tip. Somehow I had cracked the tip and didnt know it. Anyway once we realised this she ran as fast as she could to her car to get her net. She got back and about 2 minutes later I landed a 38# buck! Once the fish was on the bank I took my line in my hands and just pulled with about 6 lbs of pressure and it went SNAP!! I have never been so thankful someone had went and got a net for me in my life! She is one of the good ones and if you are ever there and get the chance to meet her you will know.

EDIT...I forgot to add that after landing that fish I took my rod straight down to Rons shop and he replaced the tip for me in about 10 minutes for 5 bucks! I went back down to PC and ended up hooking and handing off another 2 fish, 28# buck to my aunt and a 42# monster to my father! Only 5 fish fair hooked and landed that day and I hooked 3 of them. I only wish those once in a lifetime trips happened more often.

Sept. 27,2001 fish pics on our homepage (http://www.geocities.com/kimandronnie/fish2001/fishing2001.html) if you would like to see

Sorry to go on and on just a great memory.

Bigfishon,

You enjoy yourself at the store next door in Hebo. Enough words cannot be expressed as to what Ron Byrd owner of Nestucca Valley Sporting Goods has done for the good of the Nestucca. I'm not going into detail here but if you want, send me an e-mail and I'll fill you in.

But don't badmouth his shop because you heard some guys in the store having some fun!

I have nothing but the most of respect for Ron and the local volunteers that hang around the shop and have some fun.

Please don't participate in our broodstock program, I'd hate to be accused of stealing your fish!

:hoboy:   graemlins/berry.gif graemlins/berry.gif graemlins/berry.gif

WOW! It sure is funny how things get twisted around. Folks if it wasn't for Ron, and all the other volunteers doing the brood stock program, you probably would not have fish to catch on the Nestuca. That group also fought hard, along with other groups, to save the hatcheries that Gov. Kitz. wanted to close. You need to go into the store and talk to Ron. I think you will be glad you did. You may even want to help with some of the wolunteer projects. Jerry

Go ask Bea you will find her under the bridge in PC every morning...fish'in ofcourse, I'am sure she would not let anyone take a fish from her unless she donated it or that man would be running around with a bobber and bait hanging out of his backside

I love a good joke, especially when it gets pulled off perfectly and somebody doesnt even see it coming.

Looks like a couple guys took it, well lets say....... "hook line and sinker", and dont have a sense of humor. To bad, life is too short to,... not get it.

Well done Ron, my hats off to ya. I will stop in and buy 2 sodas next time to make up for those that are living life way to serious.

Ok, some of you might want to cut silverslinger and bigfishon a bit of slack. They just posting their experience. Whether or not it was a joke is moot. They don't have the benefit of knowing the owner(s) and what they do.
