Hello everyone,
I am brand new here and really appreciate the hard work that goes into this site, as well as all those who contribute. Lots of good info! Anyway my questions are around crabbing....me and my fiance took a day vacation last week at the Embarcadero in Newport. Borrowed a few crab rings from a relative and took some old salmon and chicken for bait....to make a long story short we caught a few nice crabs off the dock and had a great time doing it (course the weather was perfect which prob had something to do with it lol). Plus we had a crab ring given to us that some folks in a boat had snagged and brought in (it had no id or name on it anywhere).

SO my question is, where are other good places to go crabbing.......ie other docks or piers or ? that anyone can get to. Anywhere from Waldport up to Lincoln City preferred. Also is there any marine supply stores that have good prices on crab rings? I am planning on getting a few more to go with the one we have so both of us can have rings.

Thanks for any info

Russ

Warning!!!! Crabbing can be habit forming to your health!

I usually crab from a boat, but I also have done the rings from the Embarcadero. It's fun and it's easy!

I would advise that you hold off until February when they have the big Sportsmen show at the Expo in Portland. I have bought crab pots there usually through England Marine. They usually have the best prices around as well as ropes and buoys for your pots and rings.

I am probably going to head to Hammod tomorrow for another crab harvest! Then it is the easy chair, football and fresh cracked crab.
  About as good as it gets!

Fish_N_Russ, welcome aboard. Like one ifisher said you can crab right off the beach by Mo"s in Taft or even off the long pier by the South Beach marina on the other side of the bay from the Embarcadero. As far as best prices on rings, Englund marine in Newport by the Embarcadero is fine unless you can wait for the sportsman's show in February. Good luck!!

Thanks for the info guys!

I remember seeing a marine supply place next to Embarcadero when I left....it must have been the England Marine place  . I have another 50% entertainment book coupon to use so I will have to check it out next time!

get hooked, does one have to be a member or ? to use that pier by South Beach Marina? I had seen that going over the bridge but didnt know it was open to the public.
thanks
Russ

I try to use turkey legs for bait. They are larger, they last longer and the sea lions and harbor seals don't mess with them so much.

Good Luck and welcome aboard!!!!!!!!!!
