Heading out to The Fishery tomorrow (Sat, 10/12) for a long-overdue salmon outing. Anyone been out in that area this week? Any reports or recommendations?

Thanks and see you on the water! -MS

I heard that there were a buncha guide boats up there yesterday doing quite well backtrolling bait wrapped quickfish below the deadline back down the Washington side to the oak tree.

I am also told the oversize C&R fishing is excellent as well.

Just rumors though....

Fished today at Bonneville. Saw approximately 15 boats, two or three guides, and heard of one Salmon caught, one lost. Extremely slow!

(By the way, the guides were well known and usually produce even in poor conditions, today squat!)

On the other hand, C&R fishing for oversized sturgeon was fantastic! Saw one sturgeon guide hook up with at least 6 by 1:00 PM and he still had three hours to go! Many private boats also hooking up frequently.

I guess I'll have to shake off my poor attitude about sturgeon fishing!!

Be carefull up there tomorrow, we are supposed to have 20-40mph winds that will have the river stirred up real good.

Put in at the Fishery around 7 AM today and ran straight up to the dead-line. Was very windy, but made somewhat easier as it was blowing with current. Hooked up and landed my biggest salmon ever by 7:30. Thought is was a sweet 25-30 lb Chinook -- but white gums and intact adipose fin! Moster hen Coho had to go back in. We hooked and lost another couple salmon as well as lots of action on sturgeon rods. All in all a great day of fishing, but somewhat slow on the fish-catching. Though it stayed windy all day, the mild temps (for October) made for a pretty decent outing.

Guide Jerry Toman put 9 chinooks in his boat up there today. The fish aren't in the best of condition anymore though. He was backtrolling his clients with jumbo jet planer divers and K-16 Kwikfish below the Bonneville deadline and on down river.
