A friend of mine caught this on the Coumbia last weekend. He said the scale at St Helens weighed it at 62 lbs. http://www.ifish.net/uploads/590316282.jpg

This is on his Ranger tailgate

Real nice fish. If I caught it I would say it was 62 pounds.
But from the other pictures I have seen on here, I would say 42 pounds.

Just for fun, I went to a salmon weight estimator web page WEIGHT ESTIMATOR (http://www.letsflyfish.com/weight.htm) and plugged in some numbers, just to see what I'd come up with.

I figured the tail gate on a Ranger is about 48" by 18" and from that figured the fish was about 46" by 15" (extrapolated to a girth of 36") for a size in centimeters of 135 x 94. This resulted in a size estimate of "Between 44.01 and 110.47 pounds" ... oh well  I guess it probably is between those sizes!

He told me it was 46" x either 13" or 16", I can't remember for sure. Whether the scale is right I don't know. I have never used it or even been to the launch. Maybe someone else who has used can give their opion.

Very nice fish!!

Just for fun I put it into the weight calculator that I use and at 46"x32" it came out at 60.7 lbs.

It's definitely 62lbs. I rented that same fish last year for a pose....used it on my Christmas cards.

Forty-two?

Sixty-two?

Any-two!

Unless your friend, his boat, garage, and house are HO scale, that's an awesome chunk of a fish!

Can I borrow its replica for my own Christmas cards, please?

Looks like just another oversized Jack

Good fish atleast high 50's definently could go 62lbs. My 48lb'er I caught was big but that is BIG

Wow!, what a horse.

Where is the rest of the story? There has to be some sort of 'tail' with that class of fish. Is anyone else getting a warm fuzzy about the state of the chinok run this year on the Columbia river?

Wak, are you buds with Wak'm & Stak'm?

Amazing how this silly weight debate always comes up when someone says a fish is 62lbs or so.

fisherman strech a fish story just a little "sometimes" graemlins/icon_argue.gif and that is to be the truth. If I ever caught a fish like that I would say it was only twenty pounds just to see if there was a reaction. That is not likely to happen to me because I am just not that lucky.

This fish is obviously huge and I would not doubt it to be 60lbs. Awesome fish. Thanks for sharing the picture.

your absolutely right... I too would have said it was a 19 - 20lb'r... just for reaction... but the great part that wasn't told .. was that he problably caught it on 6lb line.... ha  got to say, that's a fine fish, no matter the weight! 62lb sounds good to me...

Way to go!!! That is one nice fish as if anybody needs to tell you that. The only time I care about the weight is if it is some kind of record. Otherwise, I enjoy the pics of great looking fish like this one. Nice and bright too!

42 or 62....its still bigger than any fish I have ever caught.

Damn that lack of a boat!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....... I think a drifter is in my near future...but i dont know that I'll catch fish like that in a drifter. Perhaps...gotta learn new techniques first. Only so much you can learn from a book (hot shotting, pulling plugs, etc... dont really get it yet, but will get someone to show me some day).

Cool texan, two years ago I was in the same place as you are. I still do not have a boat, however I believe that you can catch a fish like that from the bank. then again maybe that's what I tell myself to feel good about not having a boat. You just have to make due with what you have and KEEP FISHING!!!!!

I WATCHED a gentleman throwing spinners in tidewater hook up 7 times to catch his limit on tuesday, one fish was of similar size to the one on this thread. The boat anglers near him had fish but we sure enjoyed observing him in action. I love being around the fall hogs, a fellow boater helped him net the big pig as he
didn't have a net. A boat just gets you a little more access to water, doesn't buy know how.
My old drift boat sure is nice and FOR SALE!
Used ones catch fish better than shiny new ones...Otolith graemlins/berry.gif

Neutron...I'd be scheduling a trip to come see the boat, if my boss would ever get off his butt and give me my review. Its 6 months past due, and will be retroactive. Once it happens, and i get the "catch up" money, I will be in the market for something. Just gotta wait for it.

You take lay away??  graemlins/eek13.gif

Nice fish!

Anyone disputing the weight, you are probably just jealous.

I think those who haven't caught a big hog (like me) need to do some serious praying to the fish gods.

Wak...I'd say if your friend's on the "tall" side..that fish would be that big. I seen a 62 once...my dad's fish...stretched from just below the top of my head, to about halfway down to my ankles. And I'm 5'10".

62 or not...That's one nice fish there. Atta Boy!!

Pilar-
He really didn't have much of a story. He caught it on a wobbler in front of St Helens. He said there were only a hand full of boats out that day and only one person came to look at the fish when he was weighing it.

I do not know who Wak'm and Stak'm is. Yesterday was the first day I had seen his name on here. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

You all can say what you want about the fish, it is one h--- of a fish!! But it can,t be a 62lber. The reason it can.t be is becouse I am to catch a 62lber this year, I have money on it. So I am sorry, it must be 61.9. Sorry. I will catch mine 62, before thanksgiving. Trust me.

Here you go...another 62 Pounder My dad caught a few years back. It's not all in the length...Look at the "girth" too. Wak's friend's fish is as thick as that tailgate.

When this pic was taken of my dad's fish I probably had a 34 inch waist...compare to the fish, and look at the size of the fish's head too!! http://www.ifish.net/uploads/360015287.jpg

You can't use a pic of TH to compare fish size, he would make any fish look small. For those who haven't met Travis I am 5' 9" and I came up to about his arm pit. (big guy) Maybe I should say Mr. Howard... Sir

I never caught one that big. I think in order to comment on size you must have caught one at least that big.

Now enjoy a fellow ifisher's success and no squabblin' or I am gunna get out the gaff!

Think that one isn't 62? Show me your bigger one! :hoboy:

Wilson River tidewater 1982.

60 pound buck on the Guide Shop's scales.

Bobber, eggs and shrimp.

Save the "old boot" remarks, the meat was perfect. LOL.

Ah, to be young again. :hoboy:
