That makes me sick. Such a waste. It would be one thing if they were starving and poached one elk to feed their family. But this was just an out and out slaughter.
I used to have a nice herd of 16-20 behind my house. They came down every morning to the field behind my house to graze. It was so cool to watch. The school bus always frightened them back into the brush. They are all gone due to poaching. If there are one or two left, I hope they don't show themselves this winter or some greedy jerk will go in and poach them too.

Tomorrows headline: Poachers found hung from tree and skinned alive! It's my dream, I'll make it as big as I want!
I don't poach, I don't even hunt anymore, but there's a difference between this kind of poaching and some guy who is hunting for meat and feeding his family. This kind of waste makes me sick!

Hang 'em!!!!   Then kill'em  then hang'em again till they expire.
There, I feel better. I hate theives but I hate poachers more. Just no excuse at all.

Need much stiffer fines! The added revenue can help pay for more enforcement afield. Same for salmon snagger poachers.

That's awful. Why are there so many scumbags in the world?
On a related note...I have a friend who keeps a number of elk on his hobby farm. He's been breeding them for a number of years but has sold his property and has to get rid of them relatively soon. The problem is he can't even give them away and doesn't know what to do with them. If anyone has any ideas or know of anyone who needs some elk and would pay for their transport, let me know. He's in the midwest, unfortunately, so transport would be a major issue.

A number of years ago there was and Elk slaughter(only 3) at the elk view near Reedsport. The head of one big bull was taken. No clues, until a truck driver on I-5 remembered seeing an elk head in a pickup going up the freeway. OSP checked with a lot of taxidermists and found the head in Washinton. Traced everything back to some local youths in the Reedsport area. Nailed them good. There is hope even if it takes a while. These things give all hunters a black eye. These types should be sent up as felons and never hunt or fish again. This is a lot different than keeping one clam to many or a barbed hook. To bad a percentage of all game violation fines doesn't go into building a big reward for these types of major poachers.

Fisthead - Your friend is going to have difficulty. Due to chronic wasting disease and bovine TB concerns, Oregon and several other states & Canadian provinces recently banned importation of privately-owned elk. Check out www.MadElk.org (http://www.MadElk.org) for more info.
Elk farmers are finding few markets for their animals; it appears to be a dying industry.

Me     also!!!
When I was in highschool there were some kids who pulled the same stunt and then came to school and opend their big mouths to the wrong person.
They were a little confused  in the office when I asked to make a call to the State Police.

I have been asked to post this on both the hunting and main board, in hopes that someone has heard something about this:
Click here to read Bill Monroe's column about the kill (http://www.oregonlive.com/outdoors/oregonian/index.ssf?/xml/story.ssf/html_standard.xsl?/base/sports/103364618083281.xml)
Joe Schwab says that usually, someone will brag to a friend about these kinds of kills.
If you have any information about this, please contact your OSP.
Thanks,
Jen

It's a sorry state of affairs we're in when people resort to that sort of thing... Unfortunately our justice system won't truly serve the justice that is suitable for the person/persons that are responsible for such stupid acts. This is the sign of a really sick mind, and as much as I hate paying out my tax dollars for these worthless people... I think they should be at the least locked away, and not released back into the human population! EVER.... or, maybe someone could pour some Elk Urine on them and put them in a fenced in area with a couple of bull Elk...

Well it can't be put on us hunters with the season not yet open, it however might have been done by some of the PETA people. They have been known to do such things to make the general public hate hunters. It's just a thought, however it is most likely some low life just having fun with there new gun graemlins/stupid.gif .

How many of you that feel that they should be put away for life never to walk the face of the earth again are willing to have your taxes raised to pay for it?
I'm just as mad as any of you I enjoy elk hunting maybe more than fishing. If everytime we paid to put someone behind bars forever that we thought deserved it we would all be broke. I'm sorry I prefer my tax dollars go to make sure anyone that does a crime against a child, to make sure they never see daylight again.
Lets have the punishment fit the crime take all of there guns and make it a felony for them to ever own one again along with preventing them from ever purchasing a hunting license in at the very least Oregon. Granted it is still hard to prevent them from buying one from a private party.

Keep this alive! Talk to your friends and anyone who will listen. These doughballs have to tell someone when they do these things. They brag about it in taverns or at work. One of the best sentences ever handed down by a judge in this state was to a notorious bear hunter who was selling galls. The judge suspended him indefinitely from ever hunting again on "this planet" or words to that effect. He could not be in a vehicle with a gun on any unpaved road and was subject to lie detector tests as long as his probation lasted. This was in additiion to stiff sentence in jail. Yes there are more serious crimes to be dealt with but there have to be means of making these people repay the public for their thievery. graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Hey fishalot,
that is the most ridiculous crap that I have read on this board yet.
So as long as we are throwing out unfounded nonsense how about.
It is some hunter, hoping that someone will suggest that it was PETA, to chum the anti-animal rights waters.

kodiakfisher... I agree, like I said " I hate to waste my tax dollars".. but, I didn't say lock up the child molesters.. thats a whole new ball park, Charles Bronson showed us a cure for those warped humans.. they should "never" make it to the court system! As to taking away the weapons and slapping their hand? I once new a felon up on San Juan Island, actually none of us new he was a felon until... he shot himself in the chest with a shotgun... He was one of those people that accidentally shot his girlfriend 5 or 6 times with a 45, so they did there court thing and told him he could not own any more firearms.. he had more firearms than the sporting goods store... and, as the ghosts came out of the closet, well, he blasted himself... so, telling someone they can't have something doesn't work.. you have to cut their tiny little fingers off!
