I have a 21' T-Jet with the raised Fish Deck. Does anyone know where I could find an extension handle for my 9.9 merc that has a 90 degree bend in it?? It would need to mount on the kicker handle below the twist throttle yet have an inside that attaches to the throttle with a u-joint at the bend to allow for ajusting the throttle and not turning the throttle when turning the motor.
Thanks,
Jeff

nope, but I know a guy that if you design it he'll build it for you... nick@braka.com he's in Salem and does fantastic aluminum and metal work... also, had a buddy up on the island that installed one of those little electric hydraulic steering and speed control units... it worked terrific on his Trophy.. I'm thinking in line of installing one on my boat and sit in comfort... it only has a little lever to operate.. a thought anyway...

I have the higher Rails that go with the fish deck if anyone was wondering why I need a 90 in the extension.
Jeff
Woolridge I steer mine from the drivers seat, I can never figure out why someone would want to sit in the back of his boat in the rain steering the boat while everyone else sits under the canvas and stays warm

Jeff,
I have the TR-1 system mounted on my kicker and it works great. My boat is a 23' Jetcraft with an inboard and I wouldn't trade my TR-1 for anything. Just my .02.

woolridge -
This is why I went back to an open boat with tiller steering. Sounds like you need to talk to my friend, Rube.
You know, Rube Goldberg!
Sounds like quite a contraption you want to buy/build. Wish you luck.
Nate, you may be in comfort, but there are many who will agree with me that speed variations while trolling result in more strikes than any other factor. I frequently get action on a rod just after slightly speeding up or slowing down. Can't do that if you are setting the throttle and attaching a steering control...
Some days you may be taking a dry boat ride looking at wet idiots like me yet wishing you had more fish while I look at you and wish I had patched the hole in the seat of my Gore Tex pants!
Last week at Winchester Bay I saw someone standing on their swim platform running the kicker. It looked as dangerous as it looked stupid.
I'll second Hawg Hunters suggestion about the TR-1 system. If it fits your budget this is by far the best system I have ever seen for a kicker motor and is built with very high quality components. It would be well worth you time to visit their website.
Good Luck
I have a ajustable length tiller extension with two U joints. Sounds like what you need-----

If you have an AT pump there is another choice. It is an auxiliary steering system that attaches to the steering mechanism on the pump and the troller that is connected by an adjustable bar. Its pretty slick.
One of these links should work........

I have a 15hp kicker on my i/o and I use the Panther steering system for trolling. It is a electric /hyd system and works great. I can control the boat from any where i can see to steer. It has a push button control switch i hold in my hand. Had a small problem with the unit at first, but it was my own fault. Got it going now and is super for all occassions . They are on the net at www.panthermarine.com. (http://www.panthermarine.com.) Also got a throttle control for speed adjustments.

Pirate;
Are you using one of these on a pump?
I would also like to steer from the steering wheel. I have a Kodiak pump and a Honda. I just looked at the ez steer site an they have no application for Kodiak or Hamilton. Throttle controll would be nice but for the Ocean or Columbia I could make due on a wet miserable day trolling. We need a sharp guy that is a able to make some sort of bracket and rods for these types of pumps.
No problem on the nice days I use the Extension handle and sit in the back.TR1 price is just too rich. I have been in boats that have them, they are nice. There has to be a more economical way.
All you creative people step up, we will pay to play.

Yes time to change my name. Thanks guys for the help and ideas so far. hff2, I am going to check yours out. Pirate has another good one.
Jeff
I sent EZ -Steer a email regarding hooking their product to a Hamilton or Kodiak pump.
Jet~~~
EZ-Steer just sent a email
Hello,
We cannot fit the Kodiak, only the Dominator, American Turbines and Berkeley Jets. The Hamilton and Kodiaks do not give us the access to the control arm that we need.
Regards,
Connie
It looks like we need somebody creative to build one for everybody that has a Kodiak or Hamilton pump.

Someone already has an auxiliary steering unit for the Hamilton and the Kodiak. It is called Jet Troll and is advertised in STS every month. I have seen the diagram on this unit and it involves cutting a slot in the transom above the swim platform. :hoboy:
My $.02.... check out EZ steer for the American Turbine (Marine Power should work) and stick to the Panther or TR-1 for the Hamilton and Kodiak.

Yes, on an American Turbine. Works just like having 2 outboards tied together.
