Talk to me,, anybody wearing one, I've tried the auto inflate vest, not happy for the money so i sent it back. now i'm looking at this item. i need to get something that i'll wear and putting on a vest, well i just can't seam to get in to the habit, and to get to the point,, I don't want to drown. graemlins/idea.gif all of my fishing is out of a boat in big waters. the warmth factor is appealing along with the anti-drown factor. graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I've owned one for about 3 years. It's warm and comfortable. Englund in Astoria sells them for about $149. Several colors to choose from.

Bumper: They have them in all sizes (multiple X's). I agree with the reflector patches. In fact, mine is orange with the reflectors. I want all the help I can get if I go in.

BumperChrome,
I have one of those coats just bought it this year. Love it as I wear it everytime and believe me they are plenty warm. I have noticed they do run a little small though but I like it snug. I bought a 2x and I am a pretty big guy but it works good. My dad saw mine and bought one too.!

fishinfool-
My main concern is the arms, are they short?

Bumperchrome,
If you call putting your arms out straight and they come up above you wrists short then yes they are. But I had no issue with arm lengthat all. Maybe we could get together and I will show you mine and you can test it out. I lie it though.

Hey Sam ask fear no fish what he had he said it blew out of his boat down at buoy 10 and someone snagged it so maybe he has recently replaced his and can tell you where. Also your trying to wear medium clothing?

We use them at work and they are great. Comfortable and warm.

I have one that I have had for about 10 years. I bought it when I was in alaska and they are great. They are a great multi use jacket. If you can find one with the reflective strips on the shoulders, I would recommend it. I know of a bar pilot in Astoria who owes his life to those reflective strips. Also I would recommend if Mustang offers it is the jacket with the "crotch straps" This will keep the jacket from slipping off should you fall in the water.

How do they fit? my chest size is 41" which falls on the high side of med.

I've had mine for a little over 13 years... I love it.. and I test it now and again.. just have to buy a new co2 bottle now and then.. hope I never have to use it for real, but its real nice to know I have it if I need it... also, don't let your friends know what that pull string is... and, I'd buy a little big so you can where clothes underneath without binding.. mine is a 2x...

Love mine. It fits fine and I would highly recommend it. The inflatables are great during the summer though. Go for it

Anyone own or use Mustang's antiexposure suit? The floatation overalls that are insulated? They cost around 250 bucks. First time I saw one worn was fishing in the Queen Charlottes and I thought it would be just the ticket for our coastal ocean fishing.

We have used the cruiser suits for the last ten years and they are great. Basically waterproof in the rain, very comfortable , and warm on the water. I'm comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt underneath in the fall. When the Coast Guard does a safety check they just smile when they see them . We bought our parents the coats about three years ago and they love them. By the way, if your can get to Vancouver, B.C. they are about half of the price charged here in the US and no Canadian tax. Mustang makes a quality product. I would highly recommend them.

mustang bomber is the most comfortable float coat I've had and I've had several others - highly recommend it even at the rather steep price

Ditto everyone else. I have one and like it. Nice to have a jacket/life jacket all in one. I actually have an older Stearns float coat in camo that I rarely use, but the Mustang blows it away. I usually get a little too warm in it, but folks with more normal body temperatures love em. Same with the suits. If you are out in the cold, they are great. If I go over, I wanna be in one of those two outfits.

Thanks for the vote of confidence jcarufo and Keta. Your testimonials will go a long way toward my purchase of a Mustang suit. This past weekend I was reminded how cold the ocean water is as we trolled outside the bar at Tillamook.

You are probably thinking of LHR Services (www.lhrservices.com). Yes they are less expensive then other places on mustang jackets and vests. But.....

Here is my experience with them - They do not confirm orders made over the internet and they drop ship everything so it may take a long time (two to four weeks) for you to get your product.

Anyway you get the delivery and service you pay for.

Mark

Thanks for the scoop, Mark. I called Englunds in Astoria, but they only handle the waist length bomber coat. I'm looking for the longer 3/4 length. Anybody know of a place in the Portland area that sells them?

You might try Landfallnavigation.com. They carry a good selection of Mustang Survival gear at fair prices.

I think they have the longer jacket you are looking for - http://www.landfallnavigation.com/-sfc01.html

I have one of the full length exposure suits, but made but Stearns not Mustang. They are made to the same standard as the Mustang, and in fact many of the Coasties use them as they are more "cost effective." It was in the mid $200 range, from Englund's. They have cuff straps at different locations (ankle, thigh, arms); the idea is you tighten them down if you go over; it keeps much of the water out as long as you don't try to swim aggressively. The test data says you can last 6 - 8 hours in one before hypothermia sets in. The only "problem" with it is that they're so warm you just cook on a warm day, so I wear very light clothes underneath. Also has big pockets for the water-proof VHF.

Ocean- you are correct with the company, however i chose to call them direct rather than the online ordering and was put in to a very helpful gal by the name of Michelle Johnson who called me back on friday to confirm and give me a lead time of seven days. for $60.00 i can wait a week or two.
though i have yet to recivie the item LHR Services seams to be "OK"
