Hello everyone

Well, here's another one for ifish members
I know someone who wants to sell me a Sears 7HP outboard but I don't know much about the Sears brand motors, can anyone share some knowledge about these motors?

Thanks

only thing I no about them is about the older air cooled motors. A friend of mine had one I think it was a seven horse. We were out fishing and as we headed back to shore he was so proud of how much faster it was than the 1940ish mercury silent six I had I may aluminum boat. He was doing circles around me and laughing up a storm. Them boom the motor dies no more circles he cant even pull on the rope it is frozen up. So now whos doing the circles around someone elses boat. I got the last laugh on that one. He later pulled it apart and the piston rod had snapped . off to the dump for that motor.

i have a 1978 9.9 horse sears that is water cooled it came with my boat i have had it for about a year now the only problems that i have had are the starter gears that are made of plastic snapped and the pull rope broke. other than that it has not left me stranded in the tidewater or the bay. the biggest problem about the sears engines is that sears no longer carries parts and they are hard to find once something does break.most small engine repair shops can aquire parts but it takes a week or longer. hope this helps.

Try these two BB's.
I have found these to be very helpful for solving motor problems or getting info.
