Whatever happened to McQ (I think it was Ed McQuarry), used to write a fishing column in "This Week" before it went kaput? I took a salmon fishing seminar from him about 14 years ago and was just wondering. I really miss his columns and was wondering if he was offering his opinions and expertise in some other media.

Thanks,

Last time I talked to him.....He was fishing and having fun. Staying away from all of the politics and fish wars.
I think he was tired of it and a little burned out of it.
I was trying to set him up to speak at a White Water Boater of Oregon meeting. He told me that he was taking a break from speaking and gave me the name of a person from Frank Amato's company.
The young man that came to speak from Frank's place was outstanding and was a former football player for McQ.

Best wishes to him and hope he is an IFISH member.........And catching lots of fish!

Weird. The other day, I was just thinking the same thing myself. I bought one of his spinner packs way back when. Still think of his columns everytime I use them. (And I haven't caught anything with them, but I do not think it is a problem with the spinners :hoboy:

Well I was hoping to hear he was doing something more "public" but, shoot, if a guy just wants to fish, no problem there.

McQ, if by chance someone sees this that knows you, please know that I stuck through 13 years of springer fishing (after taking your class) before finally getting one. A lot of that had to do with not really fishing seriously enough but I learned a lot in the class that inspired me to keep trying and it was worth it. Thank God I have "luckier" fisheries or maybe I wouldn't have.

Ed is a great guy. He was my counselor all through high school. I remember the first time I saw one of his Fishing With McQ articles in this week. I was so excited that I knew this local celebrity.
I used to run into him in the mornings on the way fishing or hunting at the local 7-11 in Lake Oswego but I have not seen him now for a few years. I hope he is doing well.

Just to elaborate a bit . . .

He's coaching football at Riverdale High School: 8-man football, mostly with a bunch of kids who've never put on pads before. That'll really bring out the "teacher" in him! He was already there on staff -- a counselor, I think -- and they talked him out of football "retirement." The Oregonian had an article about it several weeks back.

Yeah, I always enjoyed his columns as well. I think I have most of them clipped out and saved too!
