Be careful going and coming bank over the hill, especially 6. Many can attest to how slick and deadly that pup is in spots sometimes.

Excellent advice and warning. The first frost and ice on the road can catch folks by surprise. Thanks Rick.

Another thing to watch out for is these dairy farmers are hauling silage right now and it leaks on the road and causes big slicks, especially on Hwy 22 to Hebo. Be careful out there!

Going east from the Wilson River summit.
Most accidents happen at turn 8
off camber decreasing radius with pea gravel on the side. Over correct with 2 wheels in the gravel and 2 on the pavement and most people roll over. On icy days when the fishing is good I use it to check the air in my trailer tires as the boat is usually sideways for a second or two. You have been warned !

Good post Rick. It's really very simple. Almost every year in the fall someone dies traveling the Wilson River Hwy by driving too fast for the conditions. All you have to do is leave 15 -20 minutes early and force yourself to drive a little slower and you significantly increase the chances that it will not be you. Later in the year 45 should be you max speed at o dark thirty, and at times thats too fast. Leave early, drive safe and live to fish another day, besides, you can always sleep in December.

The other "been there done that" is an o'dark thirty busting over the hill, a deer or elk could also get ya bad.

The thermometer that records the outside temperature on your vehicle is also very helpful when traveling the roads in fall and winter. It can give you a heads up and early reminder to take it easy!
I will always slow down when it is close to or below freezing.
I'm sure that most of us fisherman have got their share of stories about trailers going sideways and vehicles slipping! Fortunately, it usually is a good learning lesson!
