I have a breakaway anchor like most of you. I use zipties to hold the chain to the anchor. I have been having a heck of a time getting the zip ties to hold, we will be fishing for awhile start slipping pull up only to find all the ties broken. I use 1/8th ties, what do you use to attach the chain to the anchor and should I just up the size of the tie?

i have to use 2 ties
Make sure that there isn't any slack chain between the base of your anchor and the link you zip tie to the top. It sounds as if the
boat is pulling against the zip tie, rather than the boat pulling the chain, right down to the anchor base. If not where are you anchoring?? Maybe you need to step up on zip tie size. Just a few thoughts.

I use the 75# zip ties that are about 8" long. During the spring flows up below Bonneville, sometime it would take 3 or 4 ties to keep from breaking lose. Fished there today, and two ties were plenty. I probably could have got by with one.
Like Red said, make sure there is no slack in the chain between the anchor base and the point where you attach your ties.

At work we use two zip-ties. Still able to break away when we want to and not pop them when we don't (until they get a little old and then it just takes a second to replace).

I use 1 ziptie with no problem. After my anchor is down and I start backing or drifting down river I always pull the line a few times to insure the anchor and chain are straight on the bottom and the anchor has a bite. If it's not straight the chain and anchor could be fouled. When the current increases the anchor could start dragging on the bottom. That could put direct pressure on the tie which would break. I have seen a lot of guys just drop the anchor, back all the way down to the line and then tie off. I have also seen a number of them drag when the current is stronger or a wake comes along.

use large and multiple ties. They will break loose if your anchor is stuck and you pull them with the boat, but not if you are holding still. also tight chain is important.

I use masons line nylon string. loop twice and o couple of square nots. Again make sure the chain is tight. usually the average anchor needs the ties at the second or so link so that the breakaway tie doesnt have any tension on it. I went to the twine because it is easier to just leave a roll of it in the boat comes in handy for net repair, crab pot repair and other things too.

I use to use zip ties till the oneday I went out and I broke the last one I had. Luckly I had some 1/8" string on the boat that I use for tying crab bait in the traps with and used it. I have not had to replace it since.

i use a 1/4" wide by 11" tyewrap wrapped twice around and it always lasts the season. i even leave my chain with plenty of slack just in case. doudle rap really increases holding power and leave the tyewrap a little loose and it works great.
