ok if i limit out for coho salmon can i fish for something else? anything else...then hook a salmon and hand the pole to my friend.

Or is it that as soon as i limit on salmon or stealhead i am done for the day?

Just want to know because I saw i guy catch 2 coho right off the bat and then sit down and wait 4 hours untill his friend caught 1 at the end of the day.

Once you get your two adults you are DONE. Handing the rod off looks good $ to the eyes of a gamie.
Like over here on the Lewis River, the limit is 6 salmon. 4 jacks and 2 adults. BUT once you get your adults you are done fishing.

Yep, limit and then you must stop. It's right in the regs. Just another reason to share a hot pole in the boat. I recently limited on a friend of mine's boat and stopped fishing. He ribbed me a little which is fine. We had action all day and a ticked would have ruined the day.

Here's a novel idea...next time you catch a fish and land it, let your buddy have the next one....the third fish goes to you and the fourth back to your buddy. Thats what we do on my boat. Every one has a great time, not just the guy with the hot pole, and this question of "can I keep fishing?" rarely comes up. I sacrifice the chance of getting my limit, but if I do get my limit, that means my friend of family member has already boated a fish and we've had a great day. Not to mention that my buddies that hunt (I dont hunt) always show up at my door with Deer or Elk meat in the fall

My son and I get as much enjoyment out of handing off a fish to a friend /relative or someone who has never caught a fish as we do landing one our self. There is nothing like seeing someone catch their first salmon or steelhead and there are always plenty more for us left for that day or another day. 2 years ago my son and I got every "virgin", salmon / steelhead, member of our family into a fish  ,even though some days my son and I would go home without a fish on our tag, it was the most fun year we ever had fishing. Enjoy fishing to the fullest thats what its all about.

The rules are the same for guides and charters. If a person has caught there limit the rod comes out of the water, unless your sturgeon fishing. If your tag isnt filled with your 2 fish or whatever the limit is at that time its ok to keep fishing but as soon as you put that final mark on your tag you are done.
