Ok, without getting into any "honey holes" or "people free" spots, let's compare this years catch to last years. It seems to me that I caught more bigger fish this year than last but right at around the same amount. I did a little better number wise this year but I also went a couple of times more.

It seems the majority of the fish taken on my boat came at the tail end of the tide this year, just about the same as last year. This year I think more boats were in the area but all in all, I would rate it a great year. Last year about this time it really tapered off but I think it will last a little longer this year. Anyway, congrats to the ifishers who put their time in and slammed the URB's

I have to agree. This year was much better than last year. Mainly because we didn't fish URBs last year.

This year new boat, 6 trips 4 fish. I can't complain. Next year will be even better.

Now if we can only do as good at the coast.

I dont have last year to compare to since this was my first year with my boat. I would consider my season to be a success though. I carded 9 fish, wife 3, step-dad 2, various friends 5, my dad and his little dog 2... total = 21  FYI I am still trying too!

I have to hand it to you other Ifisher's thanks for all the advice on technical issues like how to rig and what to use, it helped a whole heck of a lot

Other than that I expect to put a lot of time on the water and to find my own little honey holes. That is one of the fun and ultimately rewarding things about fishing, hard work and experimintation will eventually add up to success!!!! graemlins/idea.gif

Thanks again people

I too don't have a last year to compare to, but I think overall it was a successful year.

Three fish (when I was on the boat) and we didn't sink.

Here is another question.... (I am full of them)... Now that the URBs are starting to slow down what can you fish for in the Columbia? With Sturgeon season not opening up until Nov. 23, is it a waste of time to continue to Salmon fish on the Columbia near St. Helens?

Chacal,

Just because strugeon is not open for retention until Nov. 23 doesnt mean you cant fish for them. If your not going to head over to chase coastal fall nooks, sturgeon is a good bet. Pressure will be light and this will give you some learning time before the crowds show up. Good luck.

I did better too,, but did not get to spend a lot of time on the river as of yet,, I have caught Columbia fish into mid Oct... Just got to know where to go....
With the fall run, Spring run and Summer run, we only need a winter run to even it out.
There is always winter steelhead.

Gosh, Steve....You're sooo into statistics..must be something to do with your job??

I lost count a couple of weeks ago...with the last week and a half a very pleasant "blur" ...too busy for bells (Madwizard eat your heart out!!) or naps.

We had fish on as soon as our lead hit the bottom numerous times....Jan got to feel (and brawl) one "walking" her gear out (right after I did, and asking me what it felt like).....The

TRIPLE was unbelievable, along with the DOUBLE we had yesterday....truly a phenomenal year....one we will be telling our grandsons and daughters about while we're in our rocking chairs watching Jerry Springer!!

Ahhh yes.....Summer of 2002 will be one we'll never forget!!

We didn't boat as many fish as last year, but that had more to do with my vacation time vs. the timing of the run. I usually get most of my URB fishin' in by the end of August, but this year it seemed the consistant days didn't occur til I was back at work. Had one 8 day stretch where we dopped out over 2 dozen times, but that took a lot evening fishing after work...and I'm just gettin' too old for that much effort.

For the first time in quite a few years, we caught several Tules this season. They fought like 'champs', but they are always a bit of a letdown to see at the net.

Fall Kings are always fun with lotsa action for everyone. I would rate the season an 'A' plus!!!

* Last year I lived in Clancy Land. This year Mr Alvin with the Chartreuse dot was the consistant producer.

I have to agree FM, for my boat 55% better than last year to be exact (and it isn't over). Number of fish per trip also much better wth roughly the same average number of rods. For me personnally, I'm at 20 since Aug 1 which is 9 more than last year (81% improvement).

The totals for my boat this year was 26 urb's, 2 Tule's and 0 silvers. My boat never saw Buoy 10 this year but nevertheless, she had a good season. I hope by next year my numbers can hang with the big boys (SureSet, FishinMission, ******, etc) but being rather "new" to the game, I did pretty good.

You put the hammer down as well 5 Cents  and I know Sturgeon 42 put a dent in them as well. I know there is still fish in the system but due to tag space, I want a tidewater hog to finish out an outstanding season. See ya on the river.........

For what its worth, I had a great season on the fall fish and I would say we put about 40 fish in my boat. Had one double, but I am jealous of FM's triple. Biggest fish for my boat was right at 31 pounds on the de-liar scale. Saw lots of the Ifishers out there (******, FM, Sureset), but didn't do much to introduce myself. I'll work on that. Also felt like I learned quite a bit this year. However, the more I learn, the more I realize I don't know.  All in all, a great year.
