Yep, that should be the one. You don't want hot all the time cause you will really rack up the hours then.

There should be a wire comming out of your switch that is only hot when the key is on but if you cant find it, do you have a fuse box? If you do you should be able to connect it to any switched wire. Meaning any wire that is only hot after the key is turned on.

There has to be at least one wire that is hot only when the switch is on. If not the motor will not shut off. Some how the power to the igintion system has to be turned off at the key.
The only other possiblity would be if the system is hooked up backwards. That is the ground wire is the one that is disconnected. Most of the sending units that are electrical are hooked up this way.
If you have other accessories that our turned off with the key you could use one of thoses wires.
You could try contacting the factory and ask there advice.

If you have a fuel meter, then it usually comes on only when key is on. Find the hot wire on that, it's what I used and very convent.
Also there has to be at least one hot going to and coming from the key, make sure you are using the meter correctly. Unless your boat is an alien or something with positive ground.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Ignition switch does not appear to be a good source. Appears I'll need to do some more probing behind the dash for another power source.

I'm trying to connect an hour meter on my 1990 OMC i/o powered Seaswirl.
Where should I be able to connect the hot wire for the meter?
Meter's instruction say from the ignition switch... but my circuit testor does not find a wire that's only hot after the key in turned on.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
