I need everyone's help here. I finally upgraded my boat two months ago to a beautiful 21' Trophy. It's the boat of my dreams. Outfitted it with 2 Scotty electric downriggers (30" fixed booms), Lowrance LX-15mt GPS/Fishfinder, 9.9 Merc 4-stroke kicker,
VHF radio and much more.
Long story short, the downriggers, GPS/Fishfinder, West Marine Deep cycle battery and Raymarine VHF radio were stolen Thursday 12 September right in front of my house in Port Orchard. Unfortunately, I did not record the serial numbers, but if anyone has any information or someone comes to you with an incredible deal on one of those items, I would surely like to know about it.
The theives left the transducer and the antenna for the GPS/Fishfinder, so someone might be looking to buy only those parts. They
I still can't believe it happend. The *******s broke three locks in the process as I had everything locked up in the cabin.
Be careful about leaving anything in your boat even overnight at your house. These crooks don't care about your stuff, they just need to steal to pay for their freakin drug habits.
If anyone has any info, please contact me on this site. Thanks in advance :depressed:

Dang! That stinks. I assume you contacted your local law enforcement- can't hurt.

Good luck.

I was just curious...did the police attempt to lift any prints and if so were they successful?

I did calll the local police and the responed very quickly. Unfortunately, the theives appeared to have used gloves as there were no prints the officer could lift. He advised I look at the local pawn shops which I've done, but no luck.
I figured this might be my best bet.

About the insurance, Thank God I do have it. I've already ordered the new downriggers and Cabela's is researching to see if Lowrance will sell just the GPS/Fishfinder without the antenna and transducer.
I'd just like to catch the SOB that stole the stuff and repay insurance company and see them go to jail.

Might keep an eye on EBay, too. It's a virtual pawn shop.

I can't imagine how devistating this can be. Especially with no prints to go on. But, I beileve that the fishing community, as a whole is a tight knit group and if the thieves think that the mechandise will be easy to get rid of without being caught, they have another think coming.

I hope that the party or parties responsible will have their day or reconing! SOON!

Glad to hear the Ifish members are keeping an eye out for me. I reported the mishap to the insurance company Friday morning and still waiting for an adjuster to call me. Hopefully they'll come through for me.

Why does this sound like someone who knew what you had and where you kept it. I mean, new boat, new gear, and three locks - I think they had the rig pretty well cased. Were you home at the time, or were you gone? I'm sure the police are way ahead of me on this, but it sounds like it might be someone who knew you had brand-new goodies and where you kept them.

If your insurance company comes through, let us ifishers know the company's name. And if they don't, we'd like to know that too. Having our stuff insured is pretty important, and having a company who stands behind us is *really* important. Your bad luck also makes me realize I need to double-check my serial numbers on all my stuff.

Hope all turns out okay for you.

I'm a Senior Cheif in the Navy stationed in Bremerton onboard the Mighty Warship (Aircraft Carrier) USS Carl Vinson CVN 70.
My insurance company is USAA.
One thing the police said was it is imperative that you engrave your stuff. That way somewhere down the line, if it shows up they will know it was yours. I will definetly engrave everything from now on and get into the habit of storing the stuff in the garage vice the boat.

D-Dave, sorry to hear of your loss. only needs to happen once and you start taking everything inside. i lost plenty of gear six months ago when my truck was broken into insurance was a pain. only received 75% of my lost gear back with the check from formost insurance. Even though i had replacement value on my insurance they still took 25% off for depreciation. my daiwa 50hv was one week old. 25%off. i was pist. FOREMOST for homes stinks. Just and fyi to you other guys out their.

It's expensive, but Chubb insurance is the best company in my mind. Lawyer buddies buy insurance from the company that is sued the least by it's own customers. Chubb.

I agree with Pete, watch eBay for your stuff. One guy had the tires and rims stolen from a new Corvette. He found them on eBay two weeks later for sale in the same town he lived in. The police set up a sting, won the bidding, met with the seller and took him to jail. Getting your gear back would be great, but seeing the thieves go to jail would be icing on the cake.

really sorry to hear news like this.. I had a Trophy up in the San Juan Islands, placed my gear on board and locked the doors... it disappeared one night! Everyone talked about the lowlifes that were living on their little homemade float homes in the backwaters.. warned me about leaving gear on board, these guys needed cigarette, beer, and drug money... anyway.. it all went away in one swoop and you come to realize that its not cheap to replace all those little treasures.. I'll check out the pawn shops in the area, Tom watches E-Bay like a hawk, and I'll spread the word to all the fishing buddies here in this area.. maybe someone can come up with some crab bait out of all this..?

I am sorry for the loss. That really stinks. Last year I got home late from the coast and left my 9.9 Yami kicker on the back. Get this it was BOLTED, CABLED AND CHAINED! Still, I was leaving for work the next morning and was giving my “po" boy's yacht the usual goodbye, longing and loving, gaze when I noticed something strange. The cover was up and yes my prizes kicker was MIA. Freakin' broke my heart; I am about to well-up just sharing with you. Cops said that these guys would take 4 to 5 hours or even several days setting this type of theft up. All I could say was then why the hell don't you pull these car or trucks over at 4:00am in the morning?

Anyway, I feel the pain, it's tough to work hard scrimp and save only to have some dirt bag steal it!

Dangerous Dave,
I've been with USAA Insurance Auto,Home,Checking Savings etc. for about 16 years now and they have always done me right. I have had my share of vandals over the years and States, and they have always come through.

Appreciate all the posts. I'm checking E-bay about 4 times a day to see if anything pops up. If I've learned anything from this mess it's to ensure everything is taken out of the boat and store them in a secure location e.g. garage or inside the house. The other is to engrave everything you can and record the serial numbers and keep that info in a secure location.
That post from Kinebra about the lowrance.
Where did you see that advertisement? and what day was it posted.?

D-dave since you mentioned your aboard the carl vinson. i hope you don't spend too much time on the lost gear and get fishing when you can. i just noticed on the news your ship is being prepped to do what the president needs back in the middle east.

good luck, sorry about the low lives. sure they didn't know what you do for our country. and if they do now should return your gear.

Reading this makes me so mad. I remember when my car was stolen. My car was missing for less than two hours when it was found completely stripped. The inside was down to the bare metal... dash, seats, even the headliner was gone.

I got ripped off by the low life who stole my car, then I got ripped off by the insurance company, then when I went to replace my car, I took another hit from the car dealership. :depressed:

I love the story Empire put on there about the rims. I hope you catch the creeps.

Hey Choppers, You're absolutely correct about the Carl Vinson. This is going to be my last weekend at home for a while and wish I could spend it fishing, but now I'm going to spend it waiting for Cabela's to send my another GPS/Fishfinder and Tyee Marine in Canada to send me two more downriggers.
But, instead of sitting around this weekend, I get to spend it widening my side yard to accomodate the boat. The boat is going in the backyard, locked to the hilt and guarded by my fierce Beagle and my .40 S&W....

Sorry to hear about your stuff DD. I had to learn that lesson the same way several years ago. I also have a Trophy. Now I always take everything of value out of the boat on every trip. It's a pain in the a$$ but it's better than having to buy all new stuff. Actually, the hardest, and one of the most expensive things to replace is tackleboxes. You don't realized how much money you've got in tackle until you have to buy it all again.

Good luck. If you find them before the cops, I'll come hold them down for you while you kick the crap out of them!

Don't beat them up! Cut off their hand and knee cap them.

I bought a 30 hp honda and the first week that I had it some **** tried to steel it. Fortunatly it weighs about 10,000 pounds and they couldn't get it off of the transom.

I'm all for the vigilant force... cut off their hand and kneecap them... seems the "legal system" just doesn't work these days... all you have to have is a few bucks, a crooked lawyer, or worthless Judge.. and your back on the street again ripping someone else off! But, if you get caught this time by the right person/people, well, you'll be shaking your chicken with the other hand and limping too! If the punishment is just, then the lowlifes will think twice before they strike... they take the tools you use to fish with, you take the tools they use to steal with! so, I say.. "to them, as they would to you"...

This topic comes up from time to time.

I doubt if any lowlife thief gives even a second to considering consequences. It's real simple, the guy has a drug jones, sees your stuff and steals it. If you cripple that thief you might discourage him personally but the others won't be affected in any way.

The social contract is the problem. We consent to be governed, pay taxes in exchange for basic services and don't get what we pay for. Captured thieves are ticketed and released because the justice system jails individuals that can post bail or have property to be confiscated and the proposed solution (IE: more jail beds) is to pour more of our money into the tax sinkhole.

It just makes me sick!

Ok so you decide to get all medieval on the thief. If you don't empty the clip and carc the worthless individual he might survive and sue you. More of your life's work down the tubes. Feature that, his entire effort consists of ripping you off and then you have to pay damages because you got ****** off and assaulted him. Or even better you go to jail for assault and he gets a ticket and goes on his merry way.

As Corrirod says 'what a pain in the arse!' I stash everything that weighs less than 200 lbs in the garage. The boat goes in there too. Yes it is a pain but I have no desire to support the parasitic elements that our all wise and powerful government allows to prey on honest, tax paying, law abiding folks. If they don't ever see your stuff, then how can they steal it?

DD, sorry about your loss. Maybe you can invest some of your angst into the effort required to stash your things when they are replaced. Tell your buddies to stash thier things too.

Pilar,
Yes it is the system that has created the problems. We lost the war on drugs why don't we make them legal graemlins/icon_argue.gif and then take the financial incentive for the majority of the theft away. It would also free up lots of jail cells for the real criminals. Knee capping a few laywers and judges might help too. graemlins/icon_argue.gif
