Launched to hit the evening tide off of Columbia City yesterday. Dropped the hook in about 50 feet of water with lots of fish showing on the chart....but nuttin' bitin'!

Hung in till about 6:30 and only saw about 4 fish caught out of a rather depleted fleet.

Weather seemed kinda weird, being so still and warm you could suffocate and suddenly so windy and cool it became uncomfortable.

Might have been a pressure change that put 'em off the bite. You could almost feel the difference in the air pressure as a front moved in. Anyway, had to put the skunk in the cooler for the first time in the last 9 trips.

When I backed into the garage, I believe I heard the distinct sound of some of my bobbers rattling around in the tidewater tacklebox. Lil' guys kept squeekin', "It's our turn...it's our turn!"

Hogtide,

I am thinking it might be the pressure change as well. We picked up one last night but the bite was very slow. We'll see what happens after we get a little rain.

Your probably right Hogtide, Pretty slow for us also, Wife got one silver. Only strike we had. Bite should be good with the rain. Your right the weather was a little weird. Yellow jackets were there normal self though, Wife is a little allergic to em. If she gets stung she has to get a shot with in 60 seconds graemlins/1zhelp.gif and right away to the hospital. Scares the hell out of me but like she say's, she's not going to give up the things she likes to do. steelheadslayer thanx  for the info on scent a couple of days ago, works pretty good. Were getting the hang of this fall fishing on the Columbia. thanx to all for the help.

Got back into town today early this afternoon. The wife and I took an out of town friend out for a couple hours of the evening tide. When we lauched, the fish checker said she had only checked 2 fish (1 chinook and 1 coho) for 16 boats.
We only saw two fish caught for about 20 boats between 3:30 and 6:45 this evening. Fortunately, one of them was on my wife's rod. A nice 20# buck. Very slow out there from all the reports (or lack of reports).

We fished Friday night and Saturday off of 73 and 74. We skunked out Friday night, with yet more anchoring problems.

After practicing several times with the anchor we felt ready to try to line up with a hogline. We failed. We stopped right in front of a boat and had to reposition. Then we got dirty looks from some of the guys on the line. I even told them we were new and figuring it out -- they didn't care. It was hot so I let it slide.

Saturday we decided to anchor up by ourselves. We did and were rewarded with a fish after about an hour. It had to have been suicidal because it hit the lure on the let down. In fact I was still letting out anchor rope when it hit. It was a nice 15-20 lbs. hen. My dad fought it to the boat, since we were alone and I was still up front.

We then found a pump out station -- being new boaters we didn't know where one was. As I tried to get back on the boat from the dock I fell into the boat about 3-4 feet (high sided crusier is what we have) killed my shoulder. Nice bruises, but at least I fell INTO the boat. I was wearing my Mustang too, just in case.

Anyway, we head out and anchor by ouselves and it is slack tide. We back up as I let out rope and the next thing I know, our anchor rope is floating by the back of the boat. This freaked me out a bit, so I started pulling in rope.

We pulled just enough rope in to have our anchoring going straight down. So as the tide came in, our ball was underwater!!! The boats in front of our boat started yelling profanity that we were too close, but people had started forming a line around us and it was two boats in front of us...it was kind of weird and we just ignored them.

Of course every huge wake the anchor would break free and we would slip, but we didn't want to reposition because of our inexperience and hte line that was around us. So we just sat and watched the weather change -- that was cool.

We had a lot of strikes during the weather change. We were using multicolored wobblers -- washed real good with Lemon Joy and some Salmon egg scent. We just missed the fish for some reason. Right after the weather turned we had about four strikes. Then we waited until about 6 p.m. and headed in.

It was a full day Saturday on the water -- from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. One fish.

Hopefully next weekend will be better -- I am just getting very tired of all of the rude obnoxious people out there. Even when we try to stay away, we get yelled at. Whatever. I am starting not to care what other people think and just try to give people a wide berth.
I am really enjoying myself, when someone isn't mad at me.

UPDATE
Today my Dad and a friend are out there and they have one 10lber in the boat. God I wish I didn't have to work!!!
