Today 30 minutes before daylight I was running up into a hole in my sled that I had been going into for four days. The riffle water I had to go thru is maybe 4 inches deep and the only way to get thru without banging your pump is on full plane. There were some guys 150 yards upriver on the bank. As soon as I could come off plane I shut the motor off and went to the electric. A couple of guys on the bank stated that something like I wasnt making friends here or somthing like that. I said that I was trying to be as considerate a possible without tearing up my pump on the boat. They kept on flapping thier mouths until I blew a gasket on them, which is a rare thing for me to do. There were 15 people there every day previous and not a word was said. Mind you it is still pretty dark outside and you cant fish for 30 minutes. Anyway I went up river a ways and hooked a few fish then decided to go back down a ways where I had been fishing below all these guys the days before. They wouldnt even look at me as I went by. The question is was I out of line or were these guys just being jacka$$es. I know that there are a lot of inconsiderate people out there but I am one of the most considerate around.

I think that you were being quite considerate by the sounds of things! I would have done that same thing and probably also would have blown a gasket! I give you an A+ for the effort!

Oh yeah forgot to mention. On thursday morning as I was going thru the riffles I banged a rock really hard, in fact it cracked my shoe. The rocks weren't there last week. A guide boat told me that there were a couple of guys down there wednesday night throwing big rocks into the shute where boats go thru. I spent 15 minutes removing them on thursday afternoon so boats could go thru. I hit hard enough that it pitched me sideways on a full plane and almost threw me out of the boat. I couldn't believe that someone would be that stupid. If someone had gotten hurt or killed then what...........

Oh Dave - that is a trick that only the most skilled fisherman know......... I bought Lee's Clackacraft last week and cant wait to use it this winter. Give me a ring

Sounds like economics to me. Remind these guys that if they are good and work hard one day they can have a boat too.

I believe that the guy that was saying crap was the father of a young guide down there. They were fishing together today and yeserday and I actually like the guide . He is a nice guy and we talk all the time. He didn't say anything to me on the way down either......

I know the spot you're talking about and I don't think you could get any more courteous. Maybe they were just a little bit envious that you were there fishing from a boat and they were stuck on the bank.
By the way how was the fishin?

My old man complains whenever we go to the Clack,Sandy,Lewis, etc. It all boils down to not having a clue as to how sleds need to be operated.Since the boat fits safely, bank dude is wrong. Most likely,he does not understand.
Glad to hear someone is catching fish.We had hamburgers for dinner.Tells you how good it was at Frenchmans. Also tells you I have no clue how to fish woblers. graemlins/stupid.gif
See you on the water.

i been on the columia where guides have back trolled right of my motor when im anchored in a hog line.
Ive been fishin on the clack when some Moron comes and back trolls right over my bobber and jig. I also have been on the Cowlitz backtrolling when the locals decide to cast over my line trying to snag me so they can make a point on how this is their river; or whatever. My point on bankiess Vs. Sleds and butt holes is simple: There out there everywhere. Hoglines contain just as many guys who will yell at you becuase your not one of the good ole boys and so they dont like you..
BAnkies will yell at you if you run through their hole or... past their hole... or near their hole...
I just stand up and tell um to stick it, any problems ,just come on over ok... It should not have to be that way but it is, welcome to fishing 2k

Just my .02 since I dont own a sled. These are probably the same Aholes that crowd right next to you when your fishing the bank. You can only please some of the people some of the time...the rest can just "F" off. I'm a bankie and I wouldnt mind ya coming through at speed as long as it not too often

Until I bought my Northriver I was one standing on the bank, So at first I tried to be courteous to everyone, Bankies and Sleders, but it seems you can't make everyone happy. Now I don't worry about Ticking anyone off, I just run my Sled the way it was designed to run. I do agree with MOJO about the size of wake.

wake size- everyone says slow down- i look back there & think " i hope they go by me full bore" my 115 prop makes a heck of a mess goin' slow

Sounds like the norm. Going both ways, it is all ignorance.
We/I expect everybody to know what I am doing and why and to assume I am being altruistic for the sake of the guy on the bank, at the ramp, down town, on the freeway. And that is the arguement we will all use. To the heck with them they don't appreciate that I did that (fill it in) just for them....
The guy on the bank (doesn't know a thing about your sled, raft, helicopter and its proper safe use) is being annoyed by a motor. you are making noise, not friends. you have a better fishing spot (grass is always greener) etc...
Don't get me wrong, I chime up and lip wrestle with the best of them. Like fishing with Roy at OC falls :-)
It all falls to a lack of information on all parties. How do you bridge that...sometime you just can't.
I don't know about your boat, but my sled plows pretty bad off plane. I throw about a 6" wake when planed, and about a 20" wake while plowing. Hmmm, which sounds better?
