Yesterday, which was Fri. happened to be the best day i've had fishing fall fish on the Columbia in my whole life. My dad and I were 4 or 5 miles downriver from the Longview/Rainier bridge and fishing 40' of water with Alvins. Five foot droppers and five foot leaders. Nickel with a yellow or chartreuse head and Gami 2/0 treble. Summary, nine takedowns, five hooked and four landed. Smallest, 14 lbs. largest was the biggest upriver bright female I've ever caught, YET. She was 35 lbs and had the biggest skeins I've yet to see. The other two we got were 16 and 24 lbs. I handed the rod to my dad on the second fish was the 24 lb Tule but he couldn't convince me to hand over the big hen. Now for part two; the day before, Dad was fishing by himself in the same spot, he caught a 28 lb buck Tule and had other takedowns as well. I don't know what he was thinking by doing this, but he had his rod laying against his rod holder and hanging over the side of the boat. His lure was still at the bottom working. Somehow he wasn't paying attention, result, he saw the butt end leaving his company. I asked him if a fish had hit and he didn't think so. I couldn't believe his rod would leave without a fish taking it because as we all know these fish hit and fight hard. Now the really sad part is the rod itself. It was an anniversary present to him from my Mom last Feb. I talked her into getting it for him as fishing is the only thing he started doing after 25 years of not fishing. It is or was, a Gloomis GL2 983. The reel was a cabelas line counter model. So, if by any chance some fellow ifishers happen to reel this in, it would be nice to get this get back for him. End of story.
