NOTHING happening here yet. Jigged up a dozen or so herring for fresh bait by the CG station when we started at 0600 and fished thru the high ebb. About 4 other boats fishing the tips area. Did not see one bite.

For those of you who might fish the Yaquina on occasion, when it is foggy it is critical that you run with your lights on for added visibility. Lots of a local and non-local boats, along with charters and commercial boats run out at first light. Some don't have radar and simply can't see you. We saw a near collision this AM between about a 30' pleasure craft and about a 20 ft fishing boat. Missed by about 10-15 feet with horns screaming in the fog. We were fishing on the south side of the channel with lights on and the larger boat steered away from us and almost smacked the guy fishing in the middle of the channel with no lights on. I didn't see him either until we were startled by horns blaring and could see the outline of the smaller boat after the larger one went by. Of course, the larger boat probably could have slowed down a little, but... And no, the guy in the smaller boat never did turn on his lights. People never fail to amaze me...

Just be careful out there and good luck to all!
